Possible crash fix

After saving my own custom user interface and ui settings, Zbrush kept crashing on me whenever I would start up.
It would start fine, then if I so much as even touched any of the buttons or open file dialog, it would immediately crash.

As a test I put a tild mark in front of the CustomUserInterface.cfg file in the main Zbrush3 directory like this ~CustomUserInterface.

After doing that it seemed to startup fine and then I resaved all of my settings. So far, so good.

So if anyone else is having problems like this you might give it a shot.
If it dosen’t work you can always just delete the tild character.

I found your post and had been experiencing the same problem. Did as you suggested now I am up and running again.
By the way, where did you learn how to do that little test and what exactly is the effect of that tilde mark?
Worked like a charm for me:)

Simply renaming the file disables it and the custom UI settings are not loaded.

Yes, it’s just a quick way of preventing the default file from loading as a test.

Come to find out, this is also noted in the known bugs issues, but it has to do with dissabling the welcome screen in the preferences menu.

Some people has found that this heremay be a somewhat permanent fix. You may want to look into that.

Also, some people seems to not have any problem with z3 at all. Curious.
