possible boolean operation?

Ok so I was watching this pretty simple tutorial, but it’s one of those tutorials that doesn’t explain anything they just do it for you. He uses some method that looks like a Boolean operation to use one mesh from another to create the eyes, mouth, and body.

Most people I show this to around campus tell me some other method of doing it, but so far none of it has been what I’m looking for. Does anyone here understand what he’s doing?

Thanks in advance!

He is using Dynamesh.

Quick tutorial:

  1. Draw a Sphere3D on the canvas, turn on ‘Edit’ (T) then make it a Polymesh3D.
  2. Go to Tool > Geometry and turn on ‘Dynamesh’ button.
  3. Select the ‘CurveQuadFill’ brush and, while holding down the ‘Alt’ key, draw whatever on the sphere. This will create the “negative” mesh.
  4. Hold down Ctrl and drag twice on an empty part of the canvas (once to clear the mask and again to remesh)

Ah! Thanks zber2! Worked like a charm!
