Poser Morph Target - Smoothing Mesh?

I am not sure what I am doing wrong or missing but how do I smooth out the mesh after doing a morph in ZBrush and importing into Poser?

In this example, I have created a morph (ears) on Daz 3D’s Mil Pre-School Girl. In Poser, the ears seem “jagged”. Is there any way in ZBrush that can smooth them out? In Tools I did set smooth to 1 but I know that doesn’t actually change the polygons?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Poser’s smoothing algorithms are a little different from ZBrush’s. You’ll find that a setting of about .6 or .7 in ZBrush on the Tool>Modifiers>Smooth slider is pretty close to what you’ll see in Poser. This is just a rendering algorithm, though, and doesn’t affect the geometry at all.

What you should do is mask off everything but the area that you wish to smooth and then use Tool>Modifiers>Deformation>Smooth. This averages the points themselves, which will result in a smoother mesh if there are enough polygons present to support it. If there aren’t enough polygons to get a good smoothing, then you’ll have to change the morph itself a bit so that the bend of the ears isn’t so severe. Either that, or move more points into the area so that ZBrush can smooth them better.

Thank you, Matthew. Could you also tell me how I mask off the area before smoothing my morph?

Thanks again,
Diane

All you need to do is hold down the control key, and paint your selection. In other words, paint the area you want to smooth. Then all you do is go to the Tool Palette, open the settings for it, open the Modifier submenu, then open the Selection submenu, and click inverse.

Once you have the selection made, and inverted, go to the Tools: Modifier: Deformation: Smooth slider to smooth out your selected area.

So a quick guide for what you need to do:

  1. Select Area You want to smooth.
  2. Tool Palette: Modifier: Selection: Inverse
  3. Tools: Modifier: Deformation: Smooth slider

It really pretty easy to do, it might take some playing with it to get it to work the way you want.

Have Fun!

Thank you! I appreciate the help!
