Hi,
I am new to Zbrush3 and I am having a problem when I import a Poser7 model. All is fine when I import, but when I go up in subdivisions I get odd deformations. (see attached images) Not sure how to fix this issue, and any suggestions would be great. Thanks, Boneaxe
This is probably a scaling issue. Poser models are very small and it is best to scale them larger for import into ZBrush. The Poser Scaler plugin will help with this, and you can use it for scaling down again on export back to Poser.
Thanks for the plug in, it installed great. I am still having issues with the weird defomation under the neck. I am using a G3 model and the problem seems to coming from the back side of the eyes. I tried the plugin on 500 and all the way up to 1000 with no change. Am I going to extreme with the settings? I tried to remove the eyes in Blender but when I try to import in back into Zbrush it crashes. Any other ideas? The plug in works great with Poser 4 models. Thanks again, Boneaxe
How did you get the obj/export from Poser?
Sorry, took a while to get back to you, modem crapped out!!! I am just adding the figure and exporting it to my desktop and then I import it at first with the import in the tool menu, and then with the poser import tool so nicely sent to me by marcus_civis. Thanks again for that.
You are going to have problems with that method, visit my website tutorials page, 1st tutorial should help you out.
Thank you for the reply, I will check it out ASAP and let you know how it goes. Boneaxe
Watched your video also but still have the same kind of problem.
I’m arranging three horses and posing them, saving
them out as an obj and them following your video with that export obj. upon import to ZB all looks fine until I start dividing…again lines from the eyes.
Also find that if I add a simple rectangle with the horses in the background
it comes apart up dividing. This also happens when I do a rectangle from Modo as a test.
Just starting to go thru tutorials awaiting the release of the Mac version. currently running on intel mac.

So no other body part gets tweaked but the eyes?
How are you exporting from Poser?
just the eyes…running toward the backend of the horses.
I export from poser as an obj. and have tried both the tool import on ZB as well as the plugin poser import set at 100.
thanks for replying back
I have exported buy unselecting
the eyes in the export setup and it eliminated the problem but if I divide beyond 2 the entire thing smires in all directions.
Sub-divide with smooth turned off, you will get some nasty lines from the edges but you can smooth those out.
If you obj is unwelded, like I think yours is…seperation can happen between groupings. You do have an option to weld at export.
What do you plan to do with it once you are done in Zbrush, I mean are you rendering in Zbrush, Poser, Max ???
Haven’t thought that far. retired I am keeping up with oldest son who teaches Maya/Modo at University.
I generally model/alter in Modo and poser to bring into Vue 6 Inf for rendering before moving on to Painter.
Doing well in ZBrush is a personal challenge. No monsters
Well, there you have it. If you are not planning on bringing it back into Poser then you can junk the groupings and weld the seams upon export, then you should be able to subdivide to your hearts content.
what do you mean by junk the groupings? should I be bringing in poser elements one at a time? or something else.
No, I meant groupings that make up a figure (lShin, lForeArm, chest, etc).
Appreciate your help. I will keep at it.
Seams were always welded upon export. must be something else.
Thanks
Try your same method with another character and see if you get the same results. If you do then it’s your method somewhere, if not…then it’s the character.
Good luck.
Thanks Darkedge, the smoothing turn off solved the problem it seems on both problems. Looking forward to the Mac zersion I can run on my dual quad PPC and cintiq to start really working up the imported elements. For now I will continue reading and watching tutorials.
Again thanks for helping with a newbie question.
