Polypainting+Zproject Confusion

I’m a Newb still trying to get my head round mac 3.12b and general workflow with Zbrush.

I’ve imported a UV’d Base mesh from C4D,SubD’ed the mesh and built up a base skin texture +scuplt…i now want to add some details from a photo using the Zproject brush.

Is there anyway of doing this,so i can blend in my details from the photo with the existing polypaint? I know i need to covert to polymesh to use zproject but then i seem to lose detail in the polypaint and my scuplted detail…and end up with no UV’s to bake the polypaint to

Can anyone tell me where i’m going wrong please…
Cheers,
mala

if you’re importing a mesh you don’t need to convert it to a polymesh.

A polymesh is only needed if you’re working with a “start up 3d mesh”

So…i’m gonna say that is where you’re going wrong.

And yes, you can blend, or add. With the Zproject brush, turn down the RGB setting 100% = 100% opacity. Lower the value to blend the textures.

Hmm…OK,i thought i needed to convert the Ztool to a polymesh to be able to use the Zproject brush…if i try to use zproject with the Ztool,i can’t get any paint/image on the mesh.

I’m not sure then.

Could you post up some images of your workflow and problem?

OK after bit of exploring…the problem seems to stem from having subtools…if i don’t split my imported mesh into subtools then i can paint and add details from a photo using Zproject brush…But if i split my mesh into subtools i then don’t seem to be able to use zproject on any of the subtools…

So i guess there is something i’m not understanding with subtools…

thats a bit of pain cos working with subtools makes it alot easier to work around the mesh hiding parts when not needed…

I am having this very problem.

I am using subtools and trying to zproject texture on to a high poly mesh to no avail.

I filled the canvas using crop and fill from a imported texture.

Is this strictly not possible?
