polypainting in conjunction with bump map - Answered

Hi,

I am having trouble getting my bump map from the Bump Viewer Material to display and then polypaint a texture at the same time. I have searched the forums and found a way to do it (in theory) from years back but this no longer seems to work (in Z4R2).

If I understand correctly, the way it should work is to simply make an alpha from your bump viewer material, adjust the intensity in the Displacement map rollout and then you can polypaint your new colour texture while still viewing the bump map in real time.

The problem is, you can’t get the bump effect to apply with displacement unless it’s map is loaded in the texture map slot., therefore defeating the pupose because you can no longer polypaint on the character.

Am I missing something here?

Thanks.

In 4R2, simply use the Tool>Surface>Noise feature. This will let you render the bump on the model while you polypaint. You can read more about how to use this feature – including how to load images to use with it – in the New Features PDF found in your ZBrush 4R2\Documentation folder.

Thankyou so much for clearing that up, aurick. I can now finish my sculpt!

I will be sure to consult the R2 pdf in future.

Cheers.
