Polypaint to Polygroups

I am working on armor for a character and I wanted to make holes in the breastplate. I painted where I wanted the holes to be using polypaint (the black spots). My plan was to then convert those areas to polygroups and create the holes using booleans. I am having trouble figuring out how to convert what I have painted, in to polygroups and I would greatly appreciate any help people could give. Thank you.armor.JPG

There’s a From Polypaint button towards the bottom of the Tool>Polygroups sub-palette.

But a simpler way would be to:

  1. Press Tool>Masking>Mask By Color>Mask By Intensity. This will convert your polypaint to a mask.
  2. Then do an double-sided Extract (Tool>SubTool>Extract.)
  3. Boolean the result.
