polypaint question

I am not getting any color when I polypaint. here is the workflow:
3d shpere- edit-make polymesh-polypaint-colorize- turn off z add-turn on RGB- change material to lighter color-turn up rgb intensity- then nothing. Why aren’t I getting any color? Any help would be appreciated.
I thought it might be a problem with my program so I reinstalled zbrush, still no change.

The parametric objects (primitives) don’t have UV’s. After making the polymesh, use to Tool>UV Map menu to specify a texture size and mapping method (such as PUVTiles). Then divide and paint.
