PolyPaint/PolyGroup

I’m having a fit with trying to make PolyGroups. The problem is I can’t figure out how to paint a hard edge. It’s always anti-aliased (so to speak) or blurred, and when I convert them to groups they always come out with weird spots all along the seems.

It doesn’t matter whether I’m using PolyPaint or Mask, I can’t get a clear hard edge. I tried following tutorials which say to use the Layer Brush, but the results look like watercolors and the resulting groups are a nightmare.

Thank you kindly,

Chris

You should do Polygroups on the lowest subdivision level. Use the SelectLasso brush and, while holding down Ctrl+Shift, select the part that you want to make a polygroup and the rest will be temporarily hidden. Then go to Polygroups submenu and click Group Visible. That part will now be its own polygroup. While holding down Ctrl+Shift, click on empty part of canvas to unhide everything. Repeat this process for more polygroups.

I do make PolyGroups in the lowest subdivision, so no oworries there. Many of the polygroups I need don’t conform to a straight line, trying to select individual faces is a pain, so I was looking for a more elegant solution.

I watched a video where they used PolyPaint as the basis of the PolyGroup, but I can’t seem to paint solid edges, like the video shows.

 OK! Good luck with that then.
