Polypaint From Texture seems to be broken when used with layers

Hi all,

I am having some troubles with Zbrush 4 and the Polypaint From Texture feature. I am trying to convert a model with a preexisting texture to a layer with polypainting. But no luck, I have tried this on 3 machines, all with the same issue. Here’s the steps to repeat:

  1. Create a PM3D_Sphere3D
  2. Subdivide 4 times.
  3. Create a new Layer
  4. Apply any texture to the object.
  5. Enable MRGB
  6. Click Polypaint From Texture
  7. Nothing. The texture was not transferred over to the model.
  8. Click the button a few more times for fun, nothing.

However, as long as you aren’t transferring to a layer, it will work.

Any ideas or workarounds?

Thanks,

Try the default sphere from the projects palette in light box. If you are using the primitives from the tool palette there is a known issue with their default uv’s. You need to dump their UVs and make new ones, or use the plug in that has been provided by (my personal hero) Marcus Civis. I’ll post a second link to that thread.

Here’s the link to the plug-in. Don’t be put off by the fact that its for Sculpties, which is a Second Life specific wierdness. This just realigns the UV’s so that polypaint works properly.
