polymesh quickly looses resolution - Answered

Hi,
I am new to Zbrush. When I am sculpting (adding material) the polymesh quickly looses resolution (the polygons get larger) and I not able to do some finer work. How do I control this?</SPAN>
Thank you.</SPAN>

Subdividing is the standard approach. This can be done in the Tools: Geometry Subpallete, or using Ctrl+D (D and Shift+D will step up and down the subdivision level, respectively). A good workflow is to push the form as far as you can, subdivide once, rinse and repeat. This lets you gradually refine the details, and you always can step down a few subdivision levels to make larger changes to the sculpt.

If you’re coming from more of a sculptri’s background, or want to make very large changes to what you’re sculpting (trying to turn a sphere into a full human body, for example), you may want to look more into dynamesh. http://www.pixologic.com/docs/index.php/Dynamesh

Once you get your basic outlining shape of your model you can divide the model. This will increase the poly count and the detail level of your model.

This can be found under the Tool->Geometry-Divide button. There’s also a slider to move up and down the division levels. This is nice because you can go back to a lower resolution level and change the overall shape and then go back to your higher levels and retain details.

You can also access these options through the following shortcuts:

CTRL+D : Divide Mesh
D : Move 1 level higher
SHIFT+D : Move 1 level lower

Thank you.
