Polygroups not retained when saving. [Answered]

I keep setting polygroups for certain areas of a tool I’m working on. Then when I try to save, either as a tool or as a project, the polygroups change during the save process. Is this a common problem? Is there something I can do to have the polygroups I set retain through the saving process?

Polygroups are stored at the lowest level and will degrade if they are created at a higher subdivision level than 1. If you create at a higher level, when you switch to the lowest level there are not enough points to retain the exact polygroup borders. When you save the tool this is automatically done from the lowest level, hence the degradation that you are seeing.

The solution is to either create your polygroups at the lowest level, or to use some means of storing the polygroups, such as through polypaint.
