Polygroups and selections changing

Sometimes when I hide some topology, and switch to the hidden part, the selected polys change. Also, if I hide some polygons, make a new poly group, and hide some more, make a new poly group, then unhide all, the poly groups are messed up.

The problem might have something to do with merging multiple subtools then creating a unified skin from them, but I’m not sure.

This problem has been plaguing me for a long time.

Hi, I have had this issue as well. One thing that helps a lot is to have a custom pop up menu with your selections, masks, and polygroups buttons that you use the most. That way at least you have easier access to lasso select and polygroup visible, etc. I also put clipping brushes in this menu. My hot key is alt s. You can also try ‘re-making’ polymesh3d as a way to like refresh the mesh before you start assigning polygroups, however I am not sure this will help, but it seemed to work for me. if you need help setting up a convenient menu, let me know.

The end goal of assigning Polygroups is for UVMaster purposes. If I just unwrap the model, the UVs are sloppy. So, I want to unwrap according to Polygroups. However, I can not get the Polygroup sections to apply to only the polygons I select.

The polygons that end up being in the group are not random. If I select the same area, it will always make the same changes to my Polygroup.

I have attached a .ztl of the model i’m talking about. You will see that I have already gone past the point of being able to create a new unified skin.

If you look through the room, at the back wall, you will see a working Polygroup. Now, select the wall on the very left of the room and switch between the visible and non-visible parts. You will see the problem. You will also see that there is a crease that creates its self on some of the polygons where to top ceiling box meets the rest of the room.

I just updated to Zbrush 4R3 and the problem seems to be gone.

I’ll post here again if I find the problem again.
