Polygroup selection question?

Hi

I have a polymesh I made from a sphere tool.
I painted it with several colors then made the colors into polygroups.

I used CTRL+SHIFT+click to pick a group to deform. When I did that all else on the sphere disappeared leaving only the selection visible. Now this does single out the area which is good, but I can’t see the rest the sphere. So I can’t see how the changes are in relation to the main sphere mesh

I there a way to select an area and highlight the selected area while leaving the rest of the sphere visible?

Thanks
Frank

You should mask the visible polygroup by ctrl clicking blank area then make the rest of your polygroups visible then invert the masking by ctrl clicking blank area again. Then you have everything visible but the areas you don’t want to affect are masked.

Thanks Joe I’ll try that as a way to get this project moving

I was hoping that there would be a setting I could turn off to stop the disappear option, so I could
make a selection and have that selected area turn into a red mesh while leaving the rest of the unselected part visible as in other modeling apps.

The zbrush disappear thing is a great option, but on this project i need to see the rest of the unselected parts as i’m working on selected part.

You could also make a copy of the object on a sublayer and turn on transparency and ghosting. That way you could see a ghost of the hidden parts of your object and not have to bother with masking.

Your first suggestion works great.
I’ll try this one also.

It would be nice to have visibility toggle button that would show all unselected parts as I work on the selected part.
