Polygroup- poly per poly feature?

Is there a way to go to your the lowest subdivision level of your model (the blocky stage) and create a polygroup by selecting one poly at a time until you have selected all the polys you want to convert into a new polygroup? I don’t know if the sentence really explains it well.

I’d really like to be able to request the Polygroup feature and then click on one poly at a time on a low poly mesh until I have grouped up the exact polys I want to be linked into that new Polygroup. Painting and masking on low polys doesn’t really work like this. Polypaint and Masking usually paints over 2 polys at a time in low meshes. Sometimes it converts the ones you want, sometimes it converts the ones you dont, and sometimes it ignore the ones you are sure you painted/masked over. There is no real way of knowing the outcome until you click on the “From” button. Tolerence Sliders only help so much

hide the polygons you don’t want to be in a polygroup
ctrl+shift+lmb = green box = show only within selection
ctrl+shift+lmb-shift = red box = hide within selection

once you hide and show what you want simply create a polygroup from visible.
you may want to turn on point select as well
transform>pSelect (or something like that).

hope that helps.

Don’t forget that in 3.5 R3 there are some new options in the Tool>Visibility submenu:

  • Grow will unhide loops of polygons one loop at a time.
  • Hide will hide polygons one loop at a time.
  • Outer Ring will hide everything but the outer ring of visible polygons.

Thank’s for the tips guys.
