Polygroup from Polypaint

I cannot create polygroups from polypaint. I ignore if the video tutorials are obsolete or if I am missing something.

I have ZBrush 3.12 (Mac) equivalent to ZBrush 3.5 R3 (Windows). I have watched the alien mask tutorial and another three tutorials and no luck.

In the tutorials, when you click on the Polygroups rollout, there is an option to create polygroups from polypaint. The only options I see when I open the Polygroups rollout are: Auto Groups, Uv Groups, and Group Visible. All of the options in the Alien Mask tutorial from Pixologic are absent. Again, I ignore if I am missing a step.

Thank you for your help!!!

These are the instructions (useless for me) that I gathered from watching all videos:

  1. Use the default Polysphere
  2. Set the material to MatCap White
  3. Open the Polypaint Rollout > Turn on Colorize
  4. Color the Polysphere using different stripes of color
  5. Turn on Polyframe (Poly F button)
  6. Open the Geometry Rollout > Delete subdivision levels
  7. From the Geometry Rollout > Group Loops
  8. Choose the Move Brush and dock the brush
  9. Menu > Automasking > Mask by polygroups --This option must be from an older version of ZBrush because it is not available on my version.

That is a ZBrush 3.5 feature and so is not yet available for the Mac.

By the way, you should update to 3.2 so that you can use various plugins as well as have access to more features than 3.12 (such as GoZBrush). See here: http://www.pixologic.com/zbrush/downloadcenter/

Great! Thank you very much for your help! You have saved me a lot of time searching endless tutorials.

I also purchased the Windows version of ZBrush, but haven’t tried it out yet. They really need to add this feature to the Mac side. This is the principal reason I purchased ZBrush.
