Polygroup by subtool intersection

Hi all,
is it possible to get a polygroup from the intersection of two subtools? I.e.:

I would like to have a new polygroup on the sphere with the shape of the cylinder intersection.
I have tried to mask/paint the sphere and receive my polygroup from masking/painting. But unfortunately masking/painting doesn’t consider hidden points by other geometry.
Is there a way to change masking so it doesn’t mask hidden points?

Thx.

are you trying to get a polygroup that is basically a hemisphere?

no, it’s not a hemisphere. The polygroup(s) border should be given by the cylinder (right-hand shape):

use the sliceCirc brush (B,S,C).

Unless I am misunderstanding what you’re trying to do.

Hi,
yes when I saw the front view of that, I had the same idea .
This would work in the case the intersecting mesh is a cylinder, cube etc.
But it won’t work for meshes which are deformed in some way.
But I’m quite sure there is no possibilty at the moment to use a mesh as a “cutter” on another mesh to receive a new poly group.
We need a MeshSliceBrsuh

That means I need another workflow/process to get waht I want.

Thanks,
KK

Have you tried to mask that area and then group masked?

It’s not perfect, but you could try making the intersecting mesh have a solid black RGB, and then project the color to the other mesh. It doesn’t fill in the entire area, but it gives you a good outline and you can polypaint the rest. Then when you’re done, convert the polypaint to a polygroup.
