Poly painting and detail

What ways are there too get the best results out of poly painting? is the only way too crank up your model too highest subdiv and then paint?. I find it hard too work with my model at highest level due too to many polys. Are there any better ways? Too still dont get a too pixalated polypaint and still work stabel with your mesh? what tips trix are yuors?

PolyPaint is one color per vertex. So to get finer detail you need more polys.

If your model is already too dense for your system to handle, you should consider splitting it into multiple SubTools. Each SubTool can have your max polygon count, meaning that the model as a whole can have many more polys than can be achieved with a single SubTool.

Mask off the general area you’re working, hide unmasked polygons, then zoom in and switch the pivot point to the current section so you can easily move and rotate it about. You don’t need the whole model displayed unless you’re working across the whole model at the time, e.g. if you’re detailing a finger, you don’t need the foot, body, head etc. visible.

You can work at the max polygons available easily then, just remember it might have issues if you’re pushing it too much once you make everything visible again and try generate a normal or displacement map.
