Poised to print: Conan the Cimmerian

A born Texan, and lover of sword and sorcery, Robert E. Howard is close to my heart. In homage, Conan the Barbarian.

Many thanks to the luminous Kenneth Scott and my coworkers for their input and encouragement. I am hoping to print this one soon.

Wow very awesome very cool. A couple of months ago our class did relatively the same project.

Would be nice to be able to see the pupils, and be able to engage with him.

Also a bit more contrapposto, his hips start to turn but his shoulders should slightly turn too.

And lastly. Because his right leg is the weight bearing leg I would expect it to be a bit more in, to be able to support his weight a bit better.

But really these are small things. There is care and craftsmanship through out the piece.

Excellent, and Powerful piece…Outstanding job…:+1:

B- this is AWESOME. Excellent, excellent work!! Beautiful sculpting, great presentation…it’s going to make a killer statue.

excelente…super buen trabajo…:+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1:

Thanks for the kind words, all.

MrGuy- I tried a little contraposto on his torso early on, but it consistently results in a “lax” or weakened vibe- whereas the stoic “brick” actually seemed more befitting the subject. If you flip the front image horizontal, if anything ,for balance sake it almost seems the right foot should be further out- as the cape lends weight to that side. I did skew the belt line a bit after posting and I like enough to carry to the print.

Bad ass man! He looks very sturdy and steadfast. As a fan of conan I enjoy that he looks very set in his ways and unmovable.

I also like that his face does not fall into the latest trend of work you usually see. The younger Arnold / Henry Rollins or whatever hollywood uses now for heroes type of look.

I like the 3d Conan lettering! If I had any crits on that stuff I would say to flatten and facet a few more areas. Not too stylized, but just a few planes in a few spots I could see. But thats a nit-pick and kind of a personal preference thing more than anything.

The raised chest and barrel body area looks tops! Thats my favorite part. Nice balance of detail across the character with areas of interest and areas to rest your eyes.

Despite the fact it will add 50% to my printing costs I couldn’t resist adding a little Hyborian hottie to the scene. I have her non-intersecting in the attempt to have her placeable and removable.
