pointpusher Sketchbook (2 new VID onpage 31)

@ Cherub. Thanks a lot man. IDK if I can upload all of them at real time speed, that’s a lot of big files. But, if there’s every anyhting I’m doing that you want to ask about, just let me know, and I can make a separate breakdown video for that part. I’ve been trying to do that with some of these recent projects.

The truth is, I don’t know what the hell I’m doing, I just try a bunch of stuff until something works enough to keep it.

Also, if you, or anyone has better, faster, or cleaner ways to do stuff than I’m doing it, please share! I’m a big believer in the theory that there is no one right way, but there a nearly infinite number of wrong ways to approach things (I’m trying to unlearn some of those myself these days).

Needed a little break from the monkey guy tonight, so I made a bust instead. Back to monkey business tomorrow.

one thing i saw you do that was in your videos on maya modeling was when you
used like a bridge function and it had faces that were transparent, how did you
make them solid? Because occasionally when i bride two edges together and
change the divisions i get a half of the faces transparent. And you managed to
do something to get them solid again. Thanks for all your videos! and great modeling!

Hey SadamHu, well, I just reassign the shader when that happens. Instead of going through hypershade (kind of slow IMHO), I use the hotbox and choose Lighting/Shading>>Assign Existing material. Let me know if this is what you mean.

On another note, been playing with keyshot tonight. HOLY COW! Really cool for Doing simple product renders. These renders are not perfect, but each is less than a minute with over 1.6 million polys and 3 separate material descriptions/models. Pretty neat tool. The 15 day demo is on the site, just google keyshot.

interesting , i may have to try keyshot

Yes! woo hoo thats exactly what I meant. What a relief. :+1:

Love your work…have been following your blog for quite a while.

and thanks for putting your movs out there

Thank you! Well I might sound stupid asking this, but at one point building the straps for the bags, you made the hook kinda thingy, there was a cube base and then you protruded with a spline and curved it aligned new geometry to it and conected it to the cube base. I know of numerous ways how that could be done, but I’d like your step by step, or just slower

Thank you!

@ cherub_rock: Yep, just extruded like in the video. Here are the steps I’m using:

@SadamHu. Awesome! Glad to help man.

@Lucky_1, thank you very much!

@jjvdb15, I’ll be in for a few minutes later today.extrudeSteps.jpg

hi denny, love the late night bust!
is there a way to see your models and 2s sketches in higher resolution?

regards
rod

Hey Rod, thanks very much sir. If you go my vimeo page, you can download the original mpeg4 movies at 1280X720. the link should be on the right side of the page about half way down.

Hey Danny, I love the “bust to loosen up”, great character!

Thank you poinpusher for explaining! Yeah I imagined it but didn’t know how to do it  :+1:

NP Cherub, glad to help. Another quickie from last night. Zbrush and Hypershot.

Also, if you liked the old Alpha / Texture loader, here is a way to get it to work in Zbrush 4.0.

Hi Pointpusher, nice speed again, just a question, what is the brush you use to flatten the mesh in the cyclope video?
Thx in advance.

to see your videos are always pleasure!

@Rod, thanks man!

@ Julien. Not sure when you meant. What time was it @ in the video?

I think julien meant the clip brush you used to cut the base of the bust.

really enjoy watching your vids although I must admit that the cyclops looks better without the glossy render for me.
regardless I think I need to check out keyshot/hypershot. how many polys can it take?
it seemed you just exported the zbrush model as is, or have you decimated it?

Pointpusher it start at 2.34, when you start to flatten the body, you flatten the bottom and the side of the body using a brush, it’s strange like if you cut the shape using a king of stroke. i dont know this brush and can’t see which it is.

hey pointpusher…

i watched your video ‘FULL_BODY_FROM_A_SPHERE_Z_BRUSH_part01’ which is great. whenever i’ve tried to sculpt anything from a sphere i tend to run out of polygons for detailed areas and the topology is really messed up. your video doesn’t look like it has any of that sort of thing (i only saw a little bit of this in the ears…while you were sculpting…but wasn’t much). is it because you are using a special brush or something? what’s the secret!? and you said it was only 3 subdivisions!

thanks for your videos they really help.
