Please can anyone help me

Hello. I’m trying to get into 3D sculpting and at the moment I’m really enjoying using Sculptris. I’ve installed the ZBrush 3.1 trial to see if I can use the software and so far it’s OK. The only problem I’m having is with the resolution and pixelation of the sculpts / tools.

This pixilation is making it difficult to sculpt and as far as I can tell it could be due to either: -
3.1 not running as well as the current version of ZBrush
My PC not being good enough (although I was told it would work fine with ZBrush)
I haven’t adjusted the settings correctly in ZBrush

If anyone has any advice on what I could do to improve this then I would really appreciate your help.

Thanks very much.

Hi Will.

3.1 is a highly outdated, unsupported version of Zbrush, and no longer representative of Zbrush’s capabilities, system compatibility, or performance at the present time. Zbrush is a much more complex, but much more powerful tool than what you’re used to in Sculptris.

If you are seeing polygon facets, you need to subdivde further.

If you are seeing actual pixelation, then your Viewport is zoomed in too far.

Please note that object scale and viewport zoom (zoom document) are two different things.

Make sure your viewport window is set to “actual size”, and scale your object by alt-click-release-dragging in empty canvas space, or use the Transform Menu > Scale function. If you set your navigation scheme style to “Zbrush style” in sculptris, you can practice with it there to see if you’re doing it right.

Thank you so much, that has really helped. I can now use the scale slider and there’s no pixelation. All I need to do now is save up to buy ZBrush!
