Planarize polygons using zmodeler or other tools

I am looking for a straightforward way to planarize these front facing green pologons using zmodeler brush or any other zbrush feature and make them all snap to the same plane as the far right one while the top purple edges remain exactly the same orientation. This is very simple in all 3D apps I know. How do you do this in zbrush?

mask everything but your green polygroup and use the transpose line to move them all to the same position in a single axis.

(Coupld a moderator delete this thread? This thread is duplicated because my first thread disappeared from my post page) How can I use zmodeler to planarize the other green faces so they are in the same plane as the far right one and the purple edges are still parallel.

But that method will not make a perfectly planarized set of polygons. I can eyeball it and planarize them that way but what about perfectly planarized like I can do in other 3D apps with snapping to vertices or grids or scaling them to zero? In zbrush I cannot use transpose line to scale to a specific number like zero can I?

There are a few ways to do this. one way would be to select and mask the green polygroup, then reverse the mask, and switch to the move transpose to flatten/planarize that polygroup. make sense?

You can use the clipping brushes if you need them to be perfectly aligned.
It should be noted that Zbrush’s tools aren’t meant to be µm precision. If you’re looking for traditional modeling tools and precision you’re better off sticking with tools that are already made for that.

Zbrush is awesome and can do a ton of stuff, but sometimes you’re better off using the right tool for the right job. Eh, my 2cents.

You are absolutely right. It is not hard to think of workarounds in zbrush and if I try to forget my engineering background I can live with “good enough” precision. Zbrush is an amazing app, especially the UI is so efficient. Many impossible modeling tasks in other apps are so ridiculously easy in zbrush I feel I am cheating. Actually it is the way things should have developed in other apps, but they are all asleep with the exception of a few. I would be very much surprised if ZB5 is not going to have a straightforward way of doing what I asked above, because it is the only hurdle I face in doing 100% modeling in ZB. Zmodeler brush is meant to let me do classic poly modeling fast. Let’s see if ZB5 is going to do it all.

Not bad! Will do the job for special cases when symmetry across a world plane is needed. Please anyone reading this thread who needs scale to zero directly implemented directly in ZB send a request to Pixologic. I think transpose tool could be programmed to snap to zero scale.
