Planar Brush acting weird

Hi, I am pretty running Zbrush 4R8. I followed a tutorial about PLANAR BRUSH and found out that mine is not behaving in expected way. Seems that the people in tutorials just drag over any surface and planar brush just makes it super flat (hard surface) with of course respectful radius, in tesity and strength. But in my case no mater what size or intesity I got it doesnt seem to affect surface in that way. Makes these very little flat surfaces and no mater how much I drag doesnt really even do the job it just does little bits of flattening here and there. So weird. What am I doing wrong or is it suppose to be set in brush settings.1.png2.png

The Planar brush works at an existing elevation - there’s simply not enough on a sphere to have much effect. Hold Alt so that there’s some build up of form and you’ll get a better idea how it works.

Thanks Marcus. I see what you’re saying. I don’t know. using Alt (Option on Mac) is the only result I can see useful with Planar tool.
Other tools have Zadd and Zsub and I use both but Zadd with Planar doesnt really do anything, so the actual advertised effect I get only once used in Zsub mode.Because even when I add some clay on top it still doesn’t do anything but in Zsub mode it definitelly flattens all out.

If you want to cut into the surface more and create a plane. I would recommend using the PlanarCut in the Lightbox>Brush>Planar folder. When you find a cut you like then use the Planar brush you were using to finish the plane off. That is if you don’t want to cut into the surface again.

The point about the Planar brush is that it extends an existing plane by removing everything that is higher than the point where you start to draw. So with a sphere there is nothing that is higher and so you see hardly any effect. If you create some indentation (with, for example, the Standard brush and holding Alt) and then start drawing in the low part you will see how the plane is extended.
The image shows the point where drawing is started (the red arrow) and the material removed (magenta). The blue line shows the plane formed which is perpendicular to the normal at the point where drawing starts.

If you hold Alt while using the Planar brush then material that is lower is raised to meet the plane.
