Plains-Orc Chieftan (WIP)

orc_front.jpg Greetings all…

I’ve been picking at this orc model for a while… it’s based on one of the Paul Bonner orcs I’m fond of but I’ve been working to make it unique.

Most meshes are still symmetrical and unposed – haven’t figured out if I want to do this in Zbrush or Maya yet. I’m a game artist so it might make a low-poly debut sometime in the future as well.

Things I plan on working on – metal bits need work, flesh piercings, lip-rings, a pedastal, assymetry, pose and maybe a weapon? I’m a fan of poly-paint so I might paint it up and vary the mats too.

Comments and critique welcome and appreciated.

Sweet sculpt! Great attention to detail on the body and armor. Im curious to know if this is for a game and if so whats it called? Post again after you texture it. DL out!

Fantastic model:+1: . I like the armor pieces a lot. Hope you’ll be polypainting it soon. I just have one minor issue. The muzzle seems too long, and in the profile it resembles that of a dinosaur or a dragon and as a result the teeth or fangs have become more prominent than say the eyes. And the eyes, in my opinion, cae be far more expressive than other parts of a model. But i guess you are trying a differently styled Orc, so the anatomy must flow from that.

Beautiful sculpt. The armor looks great.

Great!!!Looking super good,even with that pose…
and it’s a wip…so that orc’s gonna rock I’m sure!
Paul Bonner is freakin Odin! my fav living artist !
Keep on!

thats a relly nice piece. great detail!

Fantastic piece! I love the detail you’ve put in this, and I look forward to seeing it posed (and textured, if you’re planning on taking it that far). :+1: :sunglasses:

Sweetness!:+1: :+1: :+1:

Can we see how you started? Please tell me this is not all zbrush…

Thanks for the kind comments! It really helps. I’ve had trouble in the past finding the patience it takes to work at this detail level as we all have our favorite aspects of modeling and small leather straps have never been mine. I might find what it takes to finish this piece yet!

It’s not for a game, it’s personal work – I might turn it into a game asset but I doubt it will find it’s way into a commercial product.

For those of you curious about the workflow for this piece I’d be happy to post breakdown images later this week.

If you’re curious about the inspiration do a search for Paul Bonner or better yet, buy his new book!

Oh… and the base meshes were created in Maya. Overall time split is about 80% Zbrush, 20% Maya.

SUPERB WORK OF DETAIL MAN WAITING TO C THE TEXTURED 1:) .

looking forward to seeing the base that you took into zbrush

Hi. Sure. I’ll try to get something up on Thursday. For the first time I played with minimizing the number of subtools and working the polygroups and masking as much as possible – this made a huge difference in workflow. I’ll try to break this down with some visuals.

This is a really nice sculpt there, love the details on the body and armor
