Pixologic "support" [Solved]

Upon contacting Pixologic “support” for answers to problems I’ve been having with creating Disp and Normal maps, I was simply told to purchase the latest 4R6 version for $800. I find this to be less than a satisfactory answer and was hoping to get some real help- very disappointing support help.

4r6 Is like Beta or even Alpha stage… full of bugs… stay with 4r5 if u can…

Upgrades are free to those who have a legal copy as far as I know…

Totally agree with you

“ZBrush 4R6 is a FREE UPGRADE for all registered users.”

Yes, my mistake- the upgrade was free but now I’m experiencing memory problems when using GoZ to Maya and ZB doesn’t seem to retain when I make the GoZ connection, so maybe it is buggy. I’ve done nothing to my Mac since updating- even deleted more files, etc. But it does seem to give me better Disp Maps… now if only I can get it to launch into Maya

Pixologic told me to activate the GoZ special installer within the Troubleshoot folder and it solved the problem- GoZ can now link w/ Maya and launch as it should- no memory issues. I’m now getting better Disp Maps than R5, using the same basic settings

Only the latest version is officially supported as it allows them and the community to focus their attention specifically on it, instead of having to deal with 6-9 different versions as a result of people not taking advantage of the (super free) updates. For example, you might have been running into an issue which doesn’t exist or can’t be recreated in R6 (which it sounds like it was the case), and that would make it very hard for anyone to offer any help when the only sound advice is to use the latest version. There’s very little point in companies supporting outdated programs when the solution to its problems already exists in the form of newer/better code that they’ve already given users access to.

"super free" -> super free bugged software updates

I stick to 4r5 as long as they don’t fix all bugs in 4r6

You’re super free to keep older versions too, so power to ya. Personally R6 works like a charm for me so I run it at home and at work : )
