If it works in PI10 that’s good news… it means XL (version 9) has a problem.
Looks like I’ll have to upgrade to 11.

DarK ZanatoS, that’s what happens to me in PhotoImpact XL. To see the changes, I have to hit the button to head back to PhotoImpact from Zbrush, which then updates Zbrush’s display to what I saved in PhotoImpact.
Does that work for you?
You probably need to flatten the image first then save it.
I tried that, but normal painting (unless you paint in object mode) doesn’t need flattening anyway.
Thanks Bradley that is indeed what was causing the problem. I was keeping the document open out of reflex but I see now that Zbrush creates a new temporary document for each drop.
For users trying to get Zapplink to application bind to Photoshop on OSX 10.4.2:
that’s it… goto zbrush and invoke zapplink from within projection master, photoshop will now open up, instead of picture viewer or whatever
Hello All -
ZApp Link for the Mac has been updated to include the ability to choose your graphics editor. When first starting ZApp Link it will ask you to locate the program that you want to start ZApp Link with.
This functionality will be added to the PC version in future updates.

Ah this now crashes ZBrush for me, I’ll email support with the details.
Thanks for the continued efforts

My issue is a minor annoyance. Sending to Photoshop using ZAppLink, opens PS, but doesn’t load the image automagically. I tracked down where it was saving the image to, so I can drag it in manually, and then everything else works as expected.
PSD’s are set to open with PS only, although when I first tried it, PSD’s were associated with ACDSee, and ZAppLink opened the image into ACDSee with no problems.
Any suggestions? It is really minor and I can work around it, but it would be nice to skip the one manual step.
I think I figured this out. First, go to Start\Settings\Control Panel\Folder Options and press the File Types tab. Scroll down to the psd type and see if it is associated with Photoshop. Mine defaulted to ACDSee no matter how much I tried to re-associate the file type. The way I corrected the problem was to delete the registered file type and create a new association with Photoshop. Now Photoshop actually displays the file when it launches.
still not getting it to work, and aswell sometimes crashes my zbrush sombady help?
I usually avoid “me too” posts, but just wanted to say great job on this. Being able to link to Photoshop has helped with so many different aspects of painting in ZBrush. For example, the “patch” tool works wonders for those slight streaks that pop up when painting near Projection Masters borders. Well, Excellent job guys and I’m really looking forward to the next release.
If your PC is not letting you change your file associations or you are having some problem along these lines the following from Kurt William may prove useful:
Start by going to: Start\Settings\Control Panel\Folder Options and open the File Types tab. Scroll down to the psd file type and see if it is associated with Photoshop. If it will not let you change associations to Photoshop or if another program has hijacked those files, delete the registered file type, then create a new one and re-associate the psds with Photoshop.

Hi,
Can I be clear on this before downloading the update because it works fine at the moment and I don’t want to break it for no reason.
If I have Photoshop set as my system psd editor and I use the new ZappLink update to select Painter as the psd editor to use, does that mean that when I leave Zbrush that Photoshop will still be my system psd editor?
my zbrush “unexpectedly quits” when its linking…
Tried having Photoshop (the app i sleected) already open, still crashes ZB
Tried changig file associations of the PSD’s in the Zapplink Data fold, still crashes ZB.
*might be nice to have the functionality in to change the program Zapplink launches more than just the maiden time u run the script… ie u move something, or u want the functionality for somthing specific in another graphics editor. -Ken
I’ve been having a few issues with it, mainly not applying the changes to the texture etc I’ve done in photoshop. but I have to say on the whole its a fantastic idea, mainly because the one thing I know well like alot of others is photoshop. Combined with some nice photoshop brushes it really does open up a whole new world.
Wayne…
No monkey! Same old error. I’ll see what happen when I do a clean install of the system…
Hi.
This plugin works great when coloring. Does it work with deformations? How?
Haider–
you can A paint where you would like deformations and use those as a guide for doing it in pm with zadd on or off or in edit mode. I had tried it this way…
I sized my document to be 2048x2048 which is the same size I am texturing the model at (I don’t know if that is necessary but I didn’t want to take a chance at the time), then went into PM (with blank texture loaded of course) and used zapplink to go to Ps and painted black on white where I wanted to add some deformations. pick up from pm and go to texture menu and make that an alpha then go to masking, hit inverse, then alp…now I have a mask where I want to deform and I can either paint em on or use the deformation palette goodies.
A thread for Troubleshooting any problems that you might be having with ZAppLink is in the Questions & Troubleshooting forum. Please do not post such messages here. Post them in the Questions & Troubleshooting Thread instead. Thanks!
Will ZappLink work to paint displacement? Such as using the PM, going to Zapplink into PS, maybe use the Dodge and burn tool to paint diplacement?
Thanks for any info!
