Pixologic Release - ZApp Link (Windows & Mac)(Updated Rev2 for Mac on Oct 17th, 2005)

spaz8, I had the same problem, try moving your ZBrush2 folder to the Applications folder.
I explained it here : http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/showthrea...28&page=6&pp=15

For me, it was a problem with the location of ZBrush and not Photoshop…

 Well, if that’s the case, then it looks like I’m S.O.L. Being that I keep all of my apps on a different hard drive. And being that Zbrush’s registration is tided to the hard drive it resides on, looks like I’ll be exporting to PhotoShop the old fashion way. Oh well…

i had both ZBrush and Photoshop installed in the Applications folder, still getting the error msg.

well i did move my zbrush folder into the same applications folder which CS2 is installed, BUT… i do not have a “my applications” folder - unless your mean in the user folder with my movies, photo etc on my boot drive.

I have Zbrush and the majority of my apps on a totally different partition. Not on the Macintosh HD boot drive, which i think is what your suggesting.

Us mac guys are less predicatible i guess :), not everything is in the C:\programs\pixologic folder like on WIN. (which works beautifully i might add) Deep paint killer indeed.

PS. riiiight forgot ZB is tied to the HD anyways even if i wanted to move the whole folder to a dif drive.

Anyways im sure PIXO will resolve this shortly, perhaps an update with a browser to point once to where ZB and PS are located on your system. If file paths are the issue to be resolved.

… got both plugs late yesterday evening, and:
this is a WIP containing the work with Zapplink (Painter), Zketchpad, one foto and - last but not least - PDpro (Dogwaffle).

For someone like me - main focus on 2D - the new plugs are heaven sent.
This not yet finished mix of apps would have taken a much longer time without the plugs and the possibilities of each of the proggies involved.

Hey, Zaphod-dude, it works with dogwaffle too???
That’s great:+1:

You right on all counts, spaz8. An update with a browser to set the file paths would be the best, most logical solution. Numerous members, if not most here have multiple painting/image editing programs. It would be good to give people a way to switch between apps without messing with the system. (On both Macs and PCs)

I agree 100% here as I also have many different editors (I love Fireworks for a lot of stuff but then Photoshop for others etc)

It’d be a simple change for Pixologic to add a field where we could specify which executable to run…

Even better would be perhaps a configurable list where you could select at launch time which app you’d like to use. :sunglasses:

Hopefully Pixologic will consider this option and add it in for us - I can’t see any reasons not to. :+1:

@Abyssis: NO, it will not work with PDpro by the way of the plug - there’s no psd-converter in PDpro.
Sorry, but: I strongly feel PDpro is worth the “detour”, at least for the veggies.

Crossbones: you do not have to tell Painter what to do, it is the system that acts here. Just hit any psd file with the right mouse button, then open with, and then make your way until you reach your painter.exe. Select it and then activate the “… use this each time blah blah” (forgot the correct words), and you are there.

The file path system is the best solution. Zbrush is looking for the file path.
If the script was partailly open source. You could go into the script and set the file path yourself. I do not think it is major coding problem so Pixologic
will probably release a update where you can point the browser to a specific app. The only thing I am sure they thought about this prior to release so there may be another reason it was not implemented. Email them with your sugesstions

Suggestion?
What to suggest for a running plug/app - whatever?
Sure, only by enabling bmp in addition to psd there would be a bunch of other apps targetable with Zapplink - but: if you can use PS or Painter (or Gimp or PSP, etc.) >> is there really something missing?

In earlier post some mac users are having problems. It may be running for you but some others it is not. Read earlier post. I have both MAC and PC
and it running fine on my PC. The suggestion is to be able to pick app via the Zapp browser. That is not a bad Idea.

Absolutley fabulous guys, this is really a home run!

Thanks a lot pixologic!

Cheers,
Xarf

My issue is a minor annoyance. Sending to Photoshop using ZAppLink, opens PS, but doesn’t load the image automagically. I tracked down where it was saving the image to, so I can drag it in manually, and then everything else works as expected.

PSD’s are set to open with PS only, although when I first tried it, PSD’s were associated with ACDSee, and ZAppLink opened the image into ACDSee with no problems.

same here.

any ideas?

cheers,

Incredible, this app has now completely replaced Deep Paint in my workflow. Its a long overduue but very welcome addition to the Zbriush arsenal.

after two days, changing folders, applications, folders and software, restarting the whole osx, make complete cleaning of the files and system, I say stop!
Dosen’t work in osx 10.4.2 … files path … unclear…

I die now… plouf !!!   I’ m a bad user, so stupid ! Sorry see ya, in another life… have a nice christmas…

Very cool  Thanks !!! :+1: :+1: :+1:

I have not changed any paths from the standard OsX setup, so all my apps are in the original install folders except I think I did have to manually create a ‘ZBrush2’ folder because I did not want the extras randomly chucked all over the main Apps folder. I would be extremely surprised if this wasn’t the first place ZB looked on OsX systems. I am still getting the error with no solution in sight. I’m wondering what mac setups were used for the beta tests, surely one of them must have been a standard latest OsX on a dual G5? I know it’ll be resolved eventually though…
Cheers

Works great with Painter. Thanks!
