Are you guys able to change the document size? When I click image resolution Width and Height are locked into 960x720. I can change the resolution.
Very nice!
thank you so much…
Wyatt, you should check your document size configurations in the main interface. Attached is a screen shot of my edit/image resolution tab and I also can’t change the width and height, but I can change it under the “document” drop down menu in the main interface.
My thoughts:
please include “rotate canvas” at some point
making ZBrush a full 64bit app will improve memory management; right now the slow down is too great when changing canvas texture or selecting the eraser
as others have said, layers are critical
Otherwise, the implementation is excellent. Great feel.
Just clearing some things up. PaintStop does have layers. Currently you have access to two layers with transparency controls. Layers do not have procedural blend modes… Hint Hint! The layer transparency control’s a little funky though coz the effect resembles an overlaid sheet of paper rather than a gel like in Photoshop. Currently, I haven’t found anything that does ‘drop to canvas’ other than exporting it. There’s no lazy brush in PaintStop but mouse average is there and it does help smooth strokes out a little bit.
The look and behavior of the natural media tools is pretty good but I wouldn’t unistall PS or Painter just yet. I don’t really care for the smudge brush coz it’s effect is like Photoshops and is too digitized in nature for a natural media tool… Painter smudging good, Photoshop smudging baaaad. Color Blend is a really nice wash tool though… A good wash tool’s a hard one.
PaintStop is quite limited compared to Photoshot and Painter. For starters, there are no selection tools and alpha channels or limited Wacom support. It does have masks and stencils though. Obviously, it’s not Pixologic’s intent to replace those programs, hence the name PaintStop. I think they’re just getting back to their roots and balancing out ZB a bit with this plugin which is definitely well suited for that purpose. It would be really nice though to have better Wacom support though. Perferably full support for 6D pens.
Last, this is also currently available for 3.1 on PC in case anyone missed that.
I had stuff I needed to get done today, now i spent my whole day playing with paintstop. Thanks Pixologic, I like it a lot. Photoshop is my main tool for image editing, I had been toying with the idea of upgrading my ancient copy of Painter, looks like that will be uneccesary now. Thanks again.
Great enhancement to the 2d painting functions!
Hi,
Regarding the video on PaintStop, Geert Melis does this young boy in a retro space outfit (of sorts).
How can I use the stencil like he is, where he is turning one layer into a stencil?
Thanks
Hey …you guys make me feel like a master…hmmm i must change my middle name to something italian…
ha ha ha just having fun guys…
Thank you Pixologic…
you guys rock !!!

i have no formal training in oil painting…and now i can do something like this …he he he…
i am ecstatic !!!
Awesome additon! I’m glad to see all advancements aren’t geared towards 3D game/movie production!
Well done! I’m glad I didn’t buy painter now
Now this is a company that is making the progress!
I just hope, i pray to god that Autodeskt dont buy them!
An Important feature to anyone painting is the ability to rotate the canvas.
While im working on a zb sculpt a quickly took a paintstop and did this, thought id share…10 min speedy.
So far im liking the tools, although alittle confused by the layer system, why the white out when top layer is turned on? Would love to be able to drop to canvas.
Gonna try using the main zb layers as brent_m_2000 suggests…
I did start using some of the original 2.5d brushes… which in conjunction with the new ones gives alot of things to explore!
Very cool plugin!
[](javascript:zb_insimg(‘151435’,‘Tab2.jpg’,1,0))
another cool plugin
Did you know that you can move, scale, rotate and even duplicate a stroke after you draw it to your canvas? Well you can!
After you draw a stroke press “W” to move it, “E” to scale it, and “R” to rotate.
To duplicate a stroke press shift+S
If you want to move, scale, rotate, and duplicate more then one stroke at a time,
hold down the “ctrl key” while you draw each stroke. You will then be able to manipulate them all together.
i agree, its a cool release, but i gotta add that the brushes feels almost the same.
and the blending options do not blend, its more of a smudge thing in variation of itself.
Great to see that some of you are already posting your PaintStops!
Looking forward to seeing much more for the community!
Finally had the chance to play around with PaintStop, another great Plugin!!!
Thanks Pixologic!!!
Brandon, I did the following:
I opened my original pencil sketch in PaintStop using
Tracing-> Load Image
Next I did a
Merge with Canvas (again, Tracing Menu)
And then
Layer to Stencil (Masking Menu)
Then I selected Sheet 2 to have a blank canvas to work on.
Selected the HB Pencil draw size set large enough (20+) Color depth around 50%
Pressed Stencil On
Hold down the Spacebar to get the Coin Operatorwhich allows me to reposition/scale/rotate the stencil appropriately.
Rub the stencil part I need with the pencil
Again, Hold down the Spacebar to get the Coin Operator to select other parts of the various sketches on the stencil to combine.
THE STENCIL ROCKS!
Long live the new Pixol. (cited James Woods in “PixoDrome”)
