Pixologic Presents: Action Hero Contest

This is ok. Nothing states the shape that the pedestal must take.

From the into: “Your creation must be a hero that has never been seen before in any media.”

I can certainly empathize, since I’ve got an old CoH character that I’d love to use myself! But CoX is a form of media, and so I have to rule against this one. For one thing, it would give you too much of an advantage because your character isn’t truly original. A lot of the elements have already been made for you.

Thanks Aurick! Have A Great New Year!

Fair enough.

Thanks,
Todd

What about ZPrimitives in the final sculpt?
Many Zprimitives have a central pole that opens up with the smooth brush. is that watertight?

maxinkuk I also wonder the same thing…but what I might do is to do the retop on the entire model once the design’s set. But it’d be good to know about the primitive with open end is considered not water tight or not… hmm…

Where are the theads located for your wips? I cant see them, probs being blind though!

Thanks Shizzle

Hey Shizzle

Here are the threads of the WIPs you have been searching for

Hi,

I am a beginner Zbrusher. I have a question about when to use transpose master. Would you pose your model towards the beginning of the sculpt, that way you wouldn’t have to rework any of your detail or do you wait until the model is finished (detail and all) and then pose it?

thanks
Paul Garcia

I don’t think that the rules of this competition say anything about when Transpose Master must be used, only that it must be used, so i think that it’s entirely up to you when to do it.
I personally think that it’s a completely legitimate choice that of sculpting a model posed at the beginning as opposed to posing a detailed sculpt, in fact I’ve done that myself in the past and I think that it’s quite good to work out of symmetry, there’s more freedom.
What I can say in favour of posing at the end is that it gives you the opportunity to think longer about the pose you want but if you’re completely sure about your pose at start then why not.

Yes, you can do this. I’m a bit confused by how PolyPaint is supposedly lower quality than a texture, though. After all, the concept of PolyPaint is that your model has the same resolution as a texture would. So the quality should be the same.
Sorry about that Aurick, in my defense I was very tired  . I also got on zb and finished the polypaint and the texture with a photo reference tuts. Now I can get real cool textures. I love Zbrush!!!
Really sorry took your time on that. Too much cooking and zbrushing at once to understand even what I was saying myself. Thanx for putting up with me and answering all our million and one questions, I know you are a busy fellow and you were so very detailed in the rules. I just didn’t see anything on alphas and textures being able to be made in other apps…I just didn’t want to do something stupid :o …ha ha too late for hoping on that one :o lol…take care all and good luck to all those that enter.

thanks maxinkuk…I am not sure which way I will go but thanks for the answer.

By the way, I reckon you can do both things at the same time now by keeping the posed version on a layer and work with posable symmetry on.

Before I totally kill a character idea I’ve got bouncing around I wanted to double check something.

From a rendering standpoint, Zbrush isn’t really know for it’s transparency and refraction correct? Basically you’d want to stay away from glass characters or characters with bubble helmets…is that right or am I missing something major in the rendering options?

Thanks,
Todd

aurick, would i be allowed to use a sketch that i have done previously, it is of a Witiko type character, that i have on my web site. it has never been used to produce a piece of work 2d or digital, and the images i created for this contest share the same hand weapon style. could you check and make a call for me, i would love to use some of that insperatioin, but not at the expense of what could be viewed as an advantage.

the image can be found at the top corner of page 3 in the 2d section. and there are alot of themes that run throughout the website that appear in my submission. i’m working on an alternate look for the same concept right now to be sure, but i would appreciate your input.

all the best.

Ok, How do I get a Transpose session out of ZB3.12 without having to buy any screencap software? Are there any free alternatives? I dont feel like sinking ANY money into a contest atm. Quicktime export is broken.

Ahhh…I get it now…this whole super hero comp is just a distraction so we all stop asking where the promised “fourth quarter of 2008” zbrush update is.

I am too smart…s…m…r…t…
I mean s…m…a…r…t

jing.

Ok I have a question. If I have a academic license to ZBrush am I eligible to participate in the contest or do I need a commercial license? I am figuring that I am not able to participate. Can anyone answer my question:qu:

Yes, you’re eligible.

Better hurry! Friday is the final day for new entries.

Entry Deadline Extended One Week!

Due to the tremendous popularity of the contest, it has been decided to extend the entry deadline by one week. Entry threads must now be started no later than January 9. Please note that this does not extend the contest deadline, which remains February 13.
