Pixologic Announcement - The Roadmap to ZBrush 2.5

Tigerz i was gonna tell ya to check the front page but I just did and its not up yet. Patience I guess is the word of the day. Keep your eyes open I am sure Aurick will announce it’s arrival shortly.

well said
even knowen its been over a year
we still should not rush them

Anyone have word on the Z2 demo? I rushed home from work and nothing…
guess I’m a little anxious.

ur not the only one, i must have refreshed the pixologic home page 500 times in the last 24 hours

>>wait for two or three service releases before it functions as it was intended to.

cassandra, you must be in windows! ahhh, the joys of being on a mac!

Actually Pete I have used macs for almost fifteen years and absolutely love them. I never would have gotten into any graphics work on the computer if it hadn’t been for Claris Works and the intuitive drawing tools that came with that program (nothing like the clunky ones that came with word!)! To my surprise I found that when I could ‘sculpt’ the lines I could draw on the computer.

No my problem is not with my operating system. A lot of the programs I use throw in their mac users as an afterthought and release their programs before they are tested properly (the Microsoft syndrome!). In fairness many companies release buggy software to both platforms in their haste to meet a deadline.

Zbrush of course does not do this and though we had to wait longer for Z2 on the mac I love the program and use it every day for something. Waiting for its release on the day nearly killed me though, but I found many friends here in the same boat and it was the first time I had ever really posted anything on ZCentral (or anywhere) and I realized all of the fun I had been missing!

I myself am not a very punctual person. I delivered my last commission rather late and, try as I might, I am rarely on time to pick up the kiddies from school. The way I look at it, Zbrush in and of itself is a work of art and a beautiful one. A gem of perfection. There really is nothing like it so if it takes a while to work out bits here and there I am more than willing to be patient! At least I have been lucky enough to get my hands on it in this lifetime!

I also love the loyalty this company shows to its users. I’ve never seen anything like it!

meant no offense! just happy to be on a mac and yes to all you said!

I went through all the pages but I didn’t see this question answered.

If a given computer(processor/RAM…) can handle the maximum number of polygons in ver.2 will it also be able to handle the maximum polygon count(13 million or whatever) in 2.5 without any hardware/RAM upgrades to that computer??

Pete, none taken! I love to tout the mac and zbrush! Thanks for giving me yet another opportunity!

I am not incredibly used to forums and my opinions tend to come across more stongly than I intend. The truth is few things that impress me, but when I find something done as well as zbrush, the mac and, say, photoshop, I do my best to put them forward.

I will try to watch the tendency to be overzealous!

lm,

i asked what machine they were running the siggraph stuff on and providing it was all live action then mr. kingslein’s reply here should answer your question.

“I do not have the specs on the machine that we were using. I know it was a PC, hyper threaded, 2 gigs of ram and a fairly fast processor. Also, remember that ZBrush does most of its work in the software so graphics cards are not that significant here.”

Just one question about Zbrush 2.5. Well the PC users be able to sculpt in a perspective view?

Yes

Oh boy!

just one question from me too:
is it possible to install 2.5 separate to 2.0 and use both versions or will update overwrite the old?

You have a single ZBrush license. 2.5 will replace version 2’s license. If you leave version 2 on your system, it will count as the second installation that’s allowed under the terms of the End User License Agreement, which means you couldn’t for example have it on both a home and work computer. Also, support for version 2 will be discontinued with the release of 2.5 (because, after all, 2.5 is a free upgrade to all registered users of version 2 or below).

Aurick,

I know I brought up this issue before and I dont want to bug you about it too much but…

If 2.5 for the mac is going to be delayed I really really urge you to consider dropping the crossgrade licensing fee. Many of us Mac users also have PC workstations and 2.5 would give us a reason to actually use them for something

Thanks for your hard work guys, Zbrush is quickly becoming the only 3d program I want to work in

Cheers,
Xarf

new features are great… But I think if pixologic add a new UV tool (like pelt mapping/ pelting) it will be better…

congrulations pixologic team…

Thanks, Aminuts. My laptop should be able to handle 2.5.

I like that the software handles most of the work, more programs should go that direction. Vue 5 handles billions of polys.
