The upcoming new features are listed in many Cg trade magazines which I have read so it is not exclusive to this forum.
All your other points I somewhat agree with.

I see this string is getting loooooooooooooooooooooooongish. Interesting conversation going on here though.
From a hobbyist point of view, ZBrush is heading towards a product with the appeal of Poser. I started with Bryce as a toy at work. I own a small marketing firm and have many days when my primary function is just sitting here waiting for that occasional phone call that I have to handle and I hate wasted time. Bryce was cool but then the problems with Corel cropped up and I became disillusioned with it and tried Vue. Much better but still no real modeling capabilities and doing landscapes with no subjects can get boring so then I get Poser. A step up but I’m using other peoples models and they are not of the quality I would like. Now I have Vue Infinite, LightWave and ZBrush. LightWave requires so much effort to learn that its taking forever to get where I can do what I’d like and what I do model in LightWave seldom imports into ZBrush as a useable item and ZBrush models are just to poly heavy for Infinite which is where I’d like to do my renders. What I really want is ZBrush with Poser capabilities and the landscape and rendering capabilities of Infinite. Not asking for much am I! If such a thing existed you would have a software suite that many like me would be willing to shell out 3 times what ZBrush costs now and I would be a guaranteed customer for upgrades. I’m an artist and I want something VERY INTUITIVE that I can pick up like a set of oils and let the inspiration flow. ZBrush could be that.
Blaine, it doesn’t sound like you understand at all any of the apps you’re using. With the upcoming FREE ZBrush 2.5 upgrade, ZBrush will have the posing functions of Poser, not to mention ZBrush is already a great and intuitive modeler–something Poser isn’t at all. ZBrush may eventually adopt animation, but the Lightwave that you use already has robust animation tools. If ZBrush were to eventually get all of the features that you think it should have then the learning curve on ZBrush will be just as high as you think it is for Lightwave…so, what’s the difference? If you know about displacement, bump, and normal maps then you don’t have to rely on high density meshes in programs external to ZBrush. ZBrush was built to overcome the short-comings of other applications when it comes to high-resolution detail. ZBrush will retain its superior appeal above Poser, at least to those who wish to work “behind-the-scenes”, because it attracts those who aren’t satisfied with “borrowing” the work of others and not meeting their full creative potential. You say you have plenty of time, but you say that you don’t want to invest it in learning the apps you already have. You’re the one who should consider adjusting and expect more of yourself. Even if ZBrush acquires all of those features, it won’t be modeling, texturing, animating, etc. for you. Invest in some video training, it’ll ease the learning process and quickly pass the hours away while you’re just “sitting there” waiting for your next call.
Regards
Sketchbook Pro is about the only program I can think of which achieves that, and it does so by cutting out features which threaten to clutter the interface. That’s not really possible in 3D – there will always be a learning curve.
However… Once you’ve put in the time to learn it, ZBrush is something you can pick up like a set of oils and let the inspiration flow.
In fact…
I’d venture to guess that your first dozen or so paintings are an embarassment to look at – everyone’s are. And this is especially true if you started with oils, with or without training. It’s a unique toolset, complete with it’s own idiosyncracies to work past.
But once you’ve learned it, you can pick oils up like ZBrush and let the inspiration flow…
Seriously, check out Meats’ illustration DVD and see what it looks like to be free of constraint.
Nobody knows. Not even Pixologic knows. It’ll be ready when it’s ready.
In the meantime, I’m still always finding new things to do with ZBrush 2.0.
I wanna die, where’s my zBrush update, I die… arghhhhhhhhhh, quick!!!
Cryman
smokebox46and2 - I don’t think I made my point as well as I could have.:o We basically agree. My real point was that ZBrush has a potential customer base way beyond the CG industry just like Poser. ZBrushes user interface has been quite easy to understand. I only run into problems between apps. I see many professional CG people struggling with similar issues. With LightWave it is not hard to learn but requires a lot of time. The documentation is a maze. I joke about having lots of idle time but I have very little.
Ctrl-Z - You are absolutely right. I’ve got to buy up all the teaching materials I can find. It’s mainly the language. Thanks to this board - THE BEST ON THE WEB IMHO - ZBrush has been easy to pick up. My only problem is time. Earning a living is ruining my life
LightWave will require good step by step tut’s. Infinite is easy and I can figure most things out without help. Its buggy for sure but does awesome renders. What I have attempted is posted here. If you look at my posts I think you will see I’m not doing that badly. I’ve only posted two paintings that were actually done in photoshop and then applied to a 2.5D canvas I created in ZBrush and I love the results.
[color=cyan]As far as the subject of this thread. They should take whatever time they need to release a stable product. I saw the opposite with Infinite and it was not pretty. They let customers brow beat them into releasing it to soon and it created I firestorm.

Hello…I like free.
Two more weeks and my tax return shows up! Then no more demo for me! If 2.5 is out by then please do not let it be priced to much higher!
The only thing to think about know is to buy the box with the backup cd or wait for a 2.5 backup and a new 2.5 user guide.
I hope it is not in the next three weeks. I am too busy now to even use it.
Yeah I think we need to start sacrificing some virgins to appease the 2.5 gods. JK I still have way to much to learn on 2.0. Keep up the good work guys!
Be serious , it was the best joke ever made ! ZBrush 2.5 dosen’t exist! But we are not the first april… oh man … Or maybe, ZBrush 2.5 is stolen by aliens …
damnit. … i need to turn off the msg notice to my email account. each time someone replies to this post I go into a panic thinking the day has finally came. come on 2.5! small_orange_diamond
A joke this big would require two and a half Aprils to pull off!
can’t be long now
It seems to be they make the Mac version first, that’s why we have to wait such a long time
