Pixologic Announcement - The Roadmap to ZBrush 2.5

Does it produce something you could import into silo for use with thier topology brush?

Actually, It would be much much easier to use in zbrush - when the price drops hopefully there could be support for this tool? Maybe? Please? It would be much better to just use it natively!

i know the pen idea is really cool

and you can feel the clay, its got somesort of force feed back system built in,

someone over at cgtalk said that with your eyes closed you can actually make out the definitions of a face from within the program!!

anyways, apart from that, its the volumetric systems that was quite interesting,no polygons !!!

if you check out the videos on their website
(http://www.sensable.com/products/3DS_Max/index.asp)

they show how they start a model, and i think that this way of starting a model is better then using zspheres:

the model with references images is the one, check it out

Looking at the first link it does look like there is a triangular mesh - just that you are sculpting displacement onto it - sort of like you can with zbrush. Since I really like the control we over the zbrush sculpting tools I think this is a product I would rather use with zbrush … one day? Zbrush 3? It’s an upgrade I would definitely be willing to pay for!

Interesting tool, but not new. Immersion has had similar tech for years, derived from medical tech - I’ve used the 3d digitizing arm for over 8 years and combined with the realtime capability in Maya it is quite amazing - but not Zbrush in anyway. The glove from immersion, 2 actually would be like using real clay. Voxols are nice but not universally acceptable in apps yet, and have issues just like any approach. Trying to get custom tools in the mainstream is a little like getting the protoype you saw at the autoshow at your local dealer. Unrealisitc to say the least. However dreaming and asking are part and parcel of life. Oh yeah, Wacom has a similar tool these days, combined with the Cintiq tablet would be pretty cool, and the pen is completely free from any connection. However, not even Zbrush gives complete control of Wacom tools yet. I’ve worked on so many things that none of you will ever see, for variosu clients - it always makes me nervous doing some of the things I do. However polys have a use, as do NURBS and Voxols and everything else that is coming along. The key is interactivity and portability between apps, to truly find a path into the mainstream. I even used the 3D/colour laser scan tech used in the last 2 Matrix movies months before they did, and it is a cool tool for some things, but not day-to-day and you still have to have a real world 3d object to start with.

I do find this thread direction interesting in that people already want more than what Zbrush is, apparently not understanding, or ignoring just how far ahead of the rest this tool really is.

You can ignore my input as you see fit.

It occurs to me that promoting ‘the competition’ in this particular thread is inappropriate.

I don’t know that zbrush has considered this yet and as we have just raised it (or more accurately as Joe Goss has just raised it) I don’t think Pixologic has been given the chance to ‘ignore’ it. As for appropriate! The whole point of this thread is discuss and be excited about where zbrush is heading. This tool is not in compettition with zbrush, but I think it would be great if in the future we could use it with zbrush - don’t you Antimorph?

I totally agree, but i have to bring up the question as to why PC users are treated like second class citizen, compare to the Mac users? We have to wait for a free update just to use that feature…

Its actually one of the most important feature im waiting for, that and the increase number of polygons it can handle(current only 1 million for my system, with 2 GB of ram!). I could use 5-6 million on my machine…

Maybe because the Mac users had to wait almost a year for Zbrush 2 to be released on the Mac. Besides that, the perspective “view” in the Mac version isn’t all it’s cracked up to be anyway. It needs to have more control of the perspective than what’s currently given, unless you like sculpting with a fisheye perspective.

You can also increase your Max polygon count in the preferences. I only have 1.5 GB of Ram, and I can sculpt meshes with 4+ million polygons. Albeit I need to hide most of the mesh in order to do so. Just be sure to save the lowest subd level so your saved files are not gigantic.

How about ZBrush 2 for Linux? 2009?

The OSX port should be fairly close to that, UI considerations aside. And when the Mac world goes Intel this coming year, it’ll be closer still. So, Linux could happen. I wouldn’t write off the possibility.

But I wouldn’t hold my breath, either. Pixologic has enough on their plate with two platforms to support.

So, yeah… 2009 seems about right, actually.

Grrrrscreenshot_01.jpg

you are joking about the 2 years right? well if not, i didnt know that…and i apologize to all the mac users.

I surely hope ZBrush 2.5 comes out this month though…i really NEED it.

i would welcome a linux version! BTW does anyone know how many programmers Zbrush has?

Pixologic looks like it would have 15 <= 25 developers. And it’s based in CA. But I’d think it has more artists than developers. And the artists beg the developers every day for more features.

I can picture an artist the other day asking about being able to work with multiple viewports, switch between tools easier, and add animation…

Just guessing though…

Why is this thread not a sticky anymore?

because ZB 2.5 might be delay , so they want to hide it?

Programmers? You know the scene in the Wizard of OZ when Toto pulls back the curtain?

Well that’s really Pixolator, who is really just the front man for the magic zglobe from the future that slowly leaks Zbrush to us lucky few who are deemed ready for the technology of the future. To do it more quickly would fry our little brains and reduce us to the same smoldering pile of goo that the wicked witch was reduced to.

Remember all that the Wizard of Oz did was give the actors confidence to do what they could already do.

I am sure that I am not the only one that agree’s that Pixolator and his company are the most gracious that I have ever dealt with in many ways. I know there are others who feel strongly about Pixologic’s reputation of caring for their own. Don’t bite the hand that feeds.

I have a feeling that what little tidbits they’ve shown us so far is just the tip of the iceberg.

I bet that when they release information about the full feature set of ZBrush 2.5 our collective heads will all explode.
