ok, I won’t… .
I can very well understand where this is coming from, but I hope you forgive me if I say it’s a tad too blunt for the usual standard of your work. that doesn’t only com from there very obvious message, but a lot from the plain render which lacks the artistic graphic treatment you usually give your images.
if for example you’d give it the same love as any of these here -

- then it would be quite a different thing.
regardless though, I appreciate the guts
Bad is bad
A Master Work in the truest sense of the word Master.
There was a time when you would have been burned alive tied to a stake for painting this image, but luckily those times are gone in most of the current world that we live in.That’s not to say that there aren’t those still out there who would like to do it.
A sign that some things have changed for the better, but also a reminder that some things never will change.
Telling the truth of the matter is always a good thing,…and like you say, bad is bad, and should always be exposed…tis the job, responsibility, and duty of the artist to do so…When that duty is avoided, it means that we all live in a lie.
Thanks for helping to keep the truth alive Bas, and for sharing this work.
I love how you took the incense smoke from the child into the mural of the Virgin Mary holding the symbol of innocence…Great piece of Art and work, Great composition, color, technique, message ect…It has it all…
Keep Inspired and Inspiring Bas , and for sure, keep sticking that sharp nailed finger of yours into the eye that lies…
Just a quick one to forget the bad things :-))
btw: (ooops) Tomorrow we eat his flesh
22 pages of inspirational work i’l be watching this for many more i hope.
Is the “marked” image a WIP? The floor looks unfinished. A very powerful image, nonetheless. My only other crit would be on the incense. Is it falling from his hand? It’s not clear. If it’s falling from his hand, his lower right arm should be back more.
Comment on the image above of the church boy.
I have had a look at most of this thread and much of your work is quite good and interesting albeit a little too cynical. That in itself is fine but when you do an image of a church boy bleeding from his rectum (an image that is definitely artistically inferior to most of the other work) and you say “not to talk about it” then you are sending some very disturbing messages.
The statement is so blatant that it contains very little subtlety.
The image is so typical of much of the present day attack on the Christian Church by liberal progressive America and is so typically unbalanced by the omission of all the good that the church does around the world.
If you do work like this then you should also do work where you depict the evil of the Islamic cult and its fuehrer muhammed - or are you too gutless to do that??? If you are putting yourself out there as a socio-political cartoonist commentator then go all the way or regard yourself as a hack. There is no grey area. Either you are a professional or you are making propaganda. It is your decision but do not believe that you can hide from this decision.
Webhead, if I’m not mistaken he is swinging it. It’s a traditional thing. The issue is you can’t quite make out the chain that holds the incense container.
I agree with Julian on the visual treatment. It may work a little better with the more artistic render.
I don’t think that Julian was knocking it so much as it’s so direct it seems more shock art than a creative way of making the point. I mean, no doubt the topic is very relevant, it’s just from a technical/artistic standpoint it’s not quite as amazing as your other work.
Of course, it may not be complete either, so ignore my rambling if that’s the case
Etcher, Julian, Spirit, Rattus, Webhead and Holto, thanks for the reply.
It is not intended to make art but in response to the call of church leaders to keep it quiet. This quickly removed subrow image does not deserve the same attention I gave to the other images.
Baz, that’s one of the few tbings one doesn’t need to really need to worry about. the church may want to keep it quite but is only shooting in its own foot that way, because it is making even more people leave church. Alone here in Austria over 87.0000 left church last year which is 64% more than in the year before.
Maybe nice to make an image of a ‘Footshooter’
“For nothing is hidden that will not be made manifest, nor is anything secret that will not be known and come to light.”
- Luke 8:17
Amen bro!
Even Julian Aassange did read it. This is about another leak
2.5 head: 3 shaders, render, bake, merge, z-add, z-sub and 1 color layer.
very good!
really love that graphic style
Stunning piece Bas.
Thanks for the reply, glad you like this muddy one
Sometimes I need some speed and expression after a long day working.
2.5D is perfect to fresh-up the mind. The image looks a bit like etching, aaaargh, I must have an etching press again! Dry needle scratching into the metal and the smell of ink.
Here is the head I used, cheers!
