pivot point

Hey guys was wondering when i click the “set pivot” it moves my entire object back to the center of the world, so im trying to fix my X,Y symmetry on an object and people online say to reset the pivot point but the object just moves to the center of the world then when i try re align the object using the gizmo it just undoes the pivot point i set?

any idea how i can fix this, trying to line up a torso with a neck but cant get the primitive to keep its symmetry.

Cheers.

Use Tool>Geometry>Modify Topology>Mirror And Weld. Make sure you set the axis you want, though probably this will be the X axis which will be already set. Position your two mesh portions so that they look good. When they are facing forwards it’s the left side that you want to look good. What Mirror And Weld does is duplicate one side of the mesh to the other side (removing the extra geometry first), welding the result. Perfect symmetry is the result.

Mhm how would that work with something like hair thats not symmetrical?

As you can see it’s doing it with everything the axis and pivot points are just always miles off, and even when i click “reset” the mesh just jumps to the center of the world but the axis remains were it was and the pivots just off. Gosh this program is a nightmare sometimes.

You said you wanted to fix your X,Y symmetry.

If all you want to do is reposition your model then use the sliders in the Tool>Geometry>Position section. They are easier to set to 0, if you want to use world coordinates.

The Set Pivot/Clear Pivot buttons in the Transform palette are a temporary way to set a subtool or mesh portion at the world center, so you can use symmetry on it.
