Piracy

I just wanted to say that ZB3 is brilliant, and a lot of effort has gone into it. Now the problem I’m concerned with is piracy. I’m not usually bothered about piracy in general, but with ZB it hits a nerve because I can’t see my life and work without it.

I’m pretty sure pirates will get a hold of ZB3 and start abusing it sooner or later, but I’m sure measures could be put into place to help reduce it?

On the Invision Power Board site, they have a method by which you can report sites hosting or linking to pirated version which I think would be a great start. Invision then use their resources to try to take the site down etc. I know the guys at Pixologic are busy, but maybe we could help somewhere along the lines?

Anyway, I just hope pirates don’t ruin it for us and version 4.

Good luck Pixologic, I for one will always support you. :+1:

Agreed. Pirates = teh suck.

I’m not sure there is anything we can do… we can’t exactly send sites takedown notices, and I’m certainly not going to recommend to people to patrol these seedy sites picking up virii and possibly being monitored by authorities. Ultimately, ZBrush has to rely on it’s copy protection and activation system to deter casual piracy. The hardcore pirates are going to find a way to get it anyway… happens every time.

Do you really think guys, students can afford paying 600 dollars for a software ?

Without Piracy do you really think you can have all these amazing models ?

I’m not supporting it , i’m just saying it !

Seriously. No one is going to use any given pirated software for commercial purposes. The home doodler kids are not where the real money is anyway. There’s nothing we can do about it, but at the same time there’s nothing we need or should do about it. If someone is interested in actually using this more intensively than occasional doodles here and there, he will buy it. Shutting down pirate sites will not get pixologic any more money, likely on the contrary.

It kinda saddens me how most heavily protected software are actually more difficult to get and install legally than illegally…

Um . . . so poor students should have the right to steal? Especially if they make art with the stolen goods?

That’s an interesting twist on aesthetics and morality . . .

What about the students with rich parents (you know, the ones whose parents bought them a BMW for high school graduation), should they pay for their software? What about the kids that got a pen & pencil set? Those on a scholarship?

This is a pretty slippery slope to infer, Students are poor => Students => can’t afford $600 software => Students will contribute art => it’s OK for students to steal via Piracy . . .

What about the guys at Pixologic? How are they going to shelter and feed their families while they’re developing their software? Or maybe they should raise the price to $800 to offset the stealing of their work . . .

Maybe my moral compass is just too old fashioned any more.

Nop they should make a student version at 50 dollars , so they can use a leagal one
