I always love your style as well, in this image the pig is really not working for me, I feel like he is kind of a boring lump, everything else is perfect.:slight_smile:

I agree. The background and everything else is near perfect but the pig is bringing down the image a bit. He is the right shade, but there is something a bit amature about him that i just cannot put my finger on.

But the rest of the image is stunning.

Do you have a WIP or tutorial that you have done to show your workflow on your backgrounds??

Thanks again for the kind words - sorry for those that don’t like Mr Pig. However you may be pleased to hear that he soared to a high altitude and jumped. His last words were a eery shreik of …“philistines” before hurtling through the inky void to a better place.

Arturo - thanks, yes I have been selling my prints but so far in the uk only. The cost of international shipping plus the greater chances of damage have made posting further afield less viable at my current prices.

Bas- wings, yes I toyed with that idea, also a noose around his neck, suicide bungee style - now that did look bleak.

My wife demands that Mr.Pig comes back and wears a tiny propeller hat and a blue and white striped t-shirt which he loves so much. She knows by chance that Mr. Pig’s first name is Hubert! And that you just made up his apparent suicide.

I like the pig. Despite beating the odds and making it aloft and being presented with a wonderful view, it seems his eyes look only inwards. And I’m sure he is scratching his bottom with his left hand.

Boozie, I hope you don’t think that I didn’t like the pig…he’s great. I just meant the spec on the material. Acorn and pig are flawless, as they completely fit the style of the piece. Have you ever considered illustrating a children’s book? The other pic of yours, Lipstick On My Haggis, is also very illustrative.

On the other hand, I really am enjoying your tribute to the late Mr. Pig.

Mc Sloshy - no worries fella and your sensitivity is very kind.
The only way to learn is to try new things. I really should have posted wip with the image anyway as my intention is to come back to it at a later date with new vitality.

I know exactly what your driving at with the pig compared to the ground. Although there is zero specularity etc on the pig (except a touch on the balloon) the fact that the ground is so textured makes the comparison seem perhaps too smooth. It’s as if the landscape was painted on canvas and the pig was painted on paper.

Blending this further should not be difficult as it just requires some careful application of some global noise in certain areas to unify the whole.

No indeed the more negative comments about the pig made me laugh - he is intended to look like he is suffering from ennui and at the mercy of the winds of fortune and so the lumpen passivity is a requirement - more detailed meshes were abandoned in the workflow precisely because they lacked that dumb je ne sais quoi.

I’m currently working on a new image to test further whether a more detailed background approach works for me and I’ll post that soon.
