Photoreal World War 2 Bunker (final render)

I’ve been working on some new portfolio pieces as I just cant get any freelance at the moment.

I thought I’d post this as even though its finnished, crit will help me on my next model. All the texturing done with z-brush (and a little z-app-link) Bumps and details were also made using z-brush. Final render in lightwave.

heres the Wip on cgtalk showing how I handpainted the textures.

Simple but…realistic
i give you even more extra props cause i dont think i would use Zbrush for buildings …yet(for characters and other detailed work what is organic i would use Zbrush in a hardbeat!)…but looks like it worked out just fine for you :+1: so:
Keep up the Good Work! :sunglasses:

Hi Si

Can i ask why you didnt go with diplacment maps ect in maya or max?
it looks fantastic, dont get me wrong. well done by the way.

There is no right or wrong way, its all about the end result.
Just wandered why this approach

Nice work though.

Thanks for the comments guys!

bedlam: Problem is lightwaves support of displacements is pretty bad so, I struggled a bit, and ended up not using them. Thing is my render time was only 40 minutes, had I worked the otherway who know how many days I would have been waiting!

Artmarqy: Yeah its pretty unorthdadox, but z-brush and lightwave (and photoshop!) are my new best buddies. It makes Uv mapping and painting so easy as I don’t have to worry about seams or complicated unwrapping.

well the outcome is very good

so be proud, as for free lance work. what i found was getting a set of “instructions” ie “i want a medevil town after a alien invasion type thing, and make it mid winter!” - a brief you know.
i know for a fact there are alot of games companys looking for good “3d concept” artists

3d concept artists? That sounds rather cool! I’d love a job like that, I think this site need a jobs forum!

A starker version of the render:

as if that isn’t a photo. :stuck_out_tongue: Nice work

Could we have another point of view from different renders ?

Bye !

Hey! thanks for the commentss guys!

And just to assure you guys it isnt a photo.

Devlin I’m going to different views eventually, but not with the same model.

Awesome :+1:

WHat you did is called camera map man, but you probably already know it.

Its an alternative to matt painting. You project a photo on a simple 3d model, to maintain photorealisme, and allow minor camera movements.

My only worry is this technic might hide all your sculpting work…

Because there tone of texture/ligtening informations on the photo, you could put it on self illumum…

Its a very good exercise indded, hope to see a smal animation!

Do not hesitate to sho untextured render to appreciate your sculpting work!

Oh sorry, I didnt read the upper post…

If you dont use a photo its awsome…

Could you render differents point of view?

Very realistic! Having never seen a bunker, I would have not known what this was. Is there some way to convey this story bit of info in the render?–maybe a ripped shred of a war poster on the wall or crumpled up on the ground? Just a thought. Great work…

Hey it really isnt a photo map!!

Heres my WIP on cgtalk showing how I handpainted the textures!

Good idea I’ll see what I can do!
