Photo As Color Palette

Hi.

Is there a way to import a color photo into ZBrush and then use that photo as a color palette? Is there a way to pick color from such an image and use it to polypaint with? For example, a closeup color photo of an eye.

Thanks!

Hi SNARK, goldo_O (the third price winner of the Action-Hero-Contest) wrote something in his Making-of about that.
Simply read the “Making-of Captain Hornet” which can be found in the current Top-Row.

If you are on a PC then you could use the Image Plane plugin:

  1. Import the photo into the Texture palette.
  2. Clear the canvas (you don’t want your model in Edit mode at this point).
  3. With the photo selected in the Texture palette, press the LoadImage button. The image will be placed on the canvas in Move gyro mode.
  4. Now adjust the ImgSize slider until the image is a suitable size. You can click and drag the gray ring of the gyro to move the image plane to one side.
  5. Press Draw to get rid of the gyro and select your model, switching to the material you want and turning off the texture. Put your model in Edit mode on the canvas.
  6. You can now use the ‘C’ hotkey to pick color from the image while you polypaint your model.
