perspective distortion

Are you supposed to be able to change distortion level after an object is created? when I set a distortion level and press the “per” button, it does cause distortion yet I am not sure if you can further adjust the distortion in real time using the slider after the initial distortion level was applied. Just wondering!

make sure you have at least 1 of the letters highlited X,Y,Z

Hi Talos,

The Perspective slider will only effect the object which is currently being edited.

Make sure that the object that you wish to distort is the current object in the Tool Palette, that you have ‘edit object’ selected in the Transform or Floating Palettes, and that you have at least one axis selected next to the Perspective slider.

hmm, I may be reading the manual wrong, but I interpret it as saying that when you draw a cube and unpress the edit mode and press the “per” botton and slide the distorion scale you would actually see the cube become distorted, actually morphing in real time while the distort scale is shifted.

zuzu, I don’t see any axis box right next to perspective slider…so not sure where I need to select an axis.

Talos,

What version of ZBrush are you using?

You can choose the axis by clicking on the X, Y, and Z, next to the Perspective Slider. This is for version 1.23 - 1.23b.

You must be in edit mode for the perspective slider to alter your current object.

I have v1.23b…thats what I see on the interface upper left corner. But I do not see any x,y,z axis buttons next to perspective distortion slider.

Hi Talos,

Here is an image with an arrow pointing to the ‘Z’ axis selector. The X and Y axis selectors are greyed out.

got it…thanks zuzu…so many hidden options in the interface…

I was initially looking at the per distort slider in the “draw” palette. guess there is more than one way to create perspective distortion.

Hi Talos,

Now that I look back to your first post, I notice that you may have been talking about the ‘Pers’ button in the Draw Palette. If you are using the ‘Pers’ button, make sure that you are in TRANSFORM mode (you will see the Gyro).

There are two perspective options in ZBrush:

  1. Deformation perspective which simulates a perspective distortion by
modifying the 3D mesh. This is the slider that is located in the
DEFORMATIONS subpalette of the TOOL Palette.
  2. Dynamic perspective does not modify the mesh, it simply simulates a
perspective distortion when the object is drawn on the canvas or when the object is
placed in TRANSFORM mode (but not in EDIT mode). This perspective option is
activated in the DRAW menu (as well as the amount of simulated perspective).

Hope this helps!
