Performance settings won't save with Custom UI

hey all-
hopefully there’s a quick fix that i’m just not seeing…
for my copy of zbrush to run smoothly, i need the max threads count in the preferences to be at 6.
whenever i start zbrush, it’s at 8 and i have to change it manually.
i tried to make the change and save it with my custom UI, but it doesn’t stick.
it doesn’t stick when i try to save it with a startup document or a project file. what am i missing?

also- it’d be nice if certain things would load with the startup document that i have to change manual every time, too:
floor elevation, perspective view angle, light placement and a smattering of rendering settings.
i thought as a workaround, i’d do a primarily blank project file with all those things changed and load it when i start up zbrush.
this works (with the exception of the max threads setting of course)… but it’d be nice if it would load that project file by default, whenever i start zbrush. is there a script, macro, plug-in or magic sauce that will allow a specified project file to be loaded by default when you open zbrush?
as always- thanks a lot for any input!

If you’re running Windows, clicking a .zpr file should open that file with ZBrush.

on a mac, sir.
thanks, though!

zber-
i knew about this- but when i try to open zbrush by double clicking on a file, it fires up the program, but then i get an error message that tells me zbrush cannot open said file and loading was aborted.
i honestly always just thought it was a zbrush thing. it’s always been this way, regardless of what version i have used.

You could record a macro and use it to base the DefaultZscript on…That button is already in your UI. Too bad you get an error now. Did you follow all the steps? What is the error more specifically? Is it just .zpr files or does it happen with .ztl files as well? I guess something’s play better with Windows than Mac.

error message is as follows:

file error

error has been encountered while trying to load the file.
loading has been aborted.

all the steps were followed, by the way.
good thinking about the macro! i’ll have to try one out and see what happens!

the macro worked like a charm, doug! thanks for the idea!

at start, i always had to hit “ctrl+N” to clear the canvas anyhow(startup document starts with preferred material).
so i recorded the macro, and bound it to “CMD+X”.
now when i start, i just hit that hotkey and loads that project file with all those parameters in place.
the only fly in the ointment at this point, is that i still haven’t found a way to make the max thread count stick. still have to change that by hand every time.

EDIT
it just occurred to my slow witted brain, to include in the macro the change in the performance settings for the max thread count.
so it seems like my startup chore is significantly less painful, now!

Some changes are saved with the Save UI button. Some are saved with the Store Config button. Don’t forget to click Store Config when making your changes. This is probably where the max thread count is being saved.

hadn’t thought of that bit with save ui button. i had been storing config- but not the other.
good eye, sir!
