i just upgraded my machine to Mac OS Mavericks.
it’s a quad core i7, 12 gigs of ram… zbrush 4r5.
never had an issue while i was using snow leopard. it pretty much ran smooth as silk.
now with mavericks- the program is basically unusable.
panning/zooming stutters and flickers. moving a mesh around the viewport/rotating is really choppy.
while trying to sculpt, regardless of of mesh density, strokes from the brushes all skip, lag and stutter.
even increasing/decreasing brush size with the arrow keys lags and stutters.
anyone have a similar issue?
Try updating to ZB4R6 P2
i think i may have to…
i was hoping to wait until 4r7 before i update again. is what i’m experiencing a known issue with 4r5, you think?
thanks for chiming in. any input is VERY appreciated.
If I remember correctly 4R5 did have some issues. First thing when having problems is to make sure you’re up to date. I still keep my older versions available just in case I need to go back, but there’s really no reason not to upgrade. For me the 4R6p2 has been more stable than 4R5.
*edit
Forgot to mention that the upgrade process is much better now than it used to be. It’s not as big of a hassle. They’ve improved the process and made it smoother.
well that’s a relief.
it always seemed like i’d be days in a state of disarray after an update, before i got square.
thanks!
I had a similar issue, though not as pronounced.
I’m on 4R6 SP2, and after updating to Mavericks, I get a stutter on my cursor movement in ZBrush, whether modelling or not.
I’ve cured it temporarily, by dropping the max number of threads that Zbrush uses by 1, to give Mavericks a little space to play in the system resources.
That’s on a core i7 Hackintosh, with 16Gb of RAM. Mavericks does not play nicely with others…
well, i’m going to do the update either tonight or tomorrow… so wish me luck!
i’ve got just about all the other bugs and headaches associated with mavericks squared away. zbrush is by and large my biggest concern, so i’m all kinds of nervous. i need it running like a champ, like i’m used to!
did a clean install. so i’m at 4r6 P2.
everything seems to be working pretty well.
the only thing that has presented itself so far, is when zooming in and out/rotating/panning, the mesh flickers and sort of does a screen tearing kind of thing, quite a lot.
also, since upgrading to mavericks (and i thought the re-install of zbrush would cure this, but did not)- there is no icon associated with any of my .ztl’s on my desktop, or in my folders. the icons are the stock one that looks like an unrecognized file. like a grey tab, with small green lettering in the upper left corner.
i know that’s sort of nitpick, but i’d like to have some sort of icon associated with my ztl’s. it just helps my brain, so when i see one, i know just what it is.
