Performance issues on GOOD machine

I had an old machine with 4 Gb of RAM and any model that goes over 2 million polys would get incredibly slow.

I now have a new machine and still have the exact same problem and was wondering if there is some setting that I’m not using since I should have much better performance? I woudl expect to get each tool to at least 4 million polys confortably.

Here are the specs

Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6700 @ 2.66 Ghz
4Gb Ram
Nvidia Quadro FX 4600
Win XP Professional
500Gb disk space

hello beaver pt. I think. without fear of mistakes, that the problem is that Windows XP 32 bit, you can not redirect 4 GB of RAM, I had already tried xp 64 bit but had many problems and instability of system crash, mainly zb.3.1, which I worked very well and I was buying a mac and Arrangements matter, but that was not the zb behaves better in that mac pc, greetings

If you’re running a 32-bit version of Windows, set Preferences>Mem>Compact Mem to 2000. Keep the Undo settings at 4, as well.

If you’re running a 64-bit version of Windows you can crank Compact Mem up to 3500. Keep the undo settings at 4 still, though.

Also make sure that your system is defragmented (both the system drive and the ZBrush drive), make sure that you have a good amount of free space on the ZBrush drive, shut down any unnecessary background apps, and make sure your virus/spyware scans are up to date.

Thanks for the info, Aurik, that was a question that has long had with the configuration of memory on my pc
