Paul Lehr

Does anyone know of any books collecting some of the paintings of Paul Lehr? I tried Amazon’s advanced search and did not find anything

Thanks in advance,

Kevin

Bud Plant specialises more in this type of book, but I could find only one listing that includes his work here.

It isn’t exclusively his work though - by the sounds of it, only a couple of pages would be devoted to him.

BC found the same book but his place is alot cheaper…mine lists for 72 bux…his is like 24 I believe…big savings!!

Paul did alot of cover art…wow… :ex: :ex: :ex: very enlightening…thnx Kevin!

Ah, beaten to the punch

As a bonus,

Here’s a thread with someone asking the same thing
And here’s Lehr’s publication bibliography

And your prize Ron is a link to Antoine Wiertz, a painter of romantic horror

Thank you both! Looking back, Paul Lehr was an important and memorable science-fiction artist of those times – by the way, it was me who snagged that book from budplant.com  – thanks for the lead, Bonecradle

I remember his enigmatic organic shapes and fluorescent color schemes [e.g. his cover for “Earth Abides” by George Stewart – or a cover for one of the Orbit series edited by Damon Knight] as much as the paintings by Richard Powers or John Berkey – too bad he doesn’t have his own art book, too

for kids plotting things on the time-map, this was only about 30 years ago

and as a further sidenote for anyone who is interested in science-fiction art in general, try to find a copy of “Science Fiction Art” edited by Brian Aldiss :+1: :+1: :+1:

for the history of written science fiction from the 1920s to about the 1960s, “Seekers of Tomorrow” by Sam Moskowitz is a great start

There are two covers on the entry page, maybe more on the following pages.

I arrived after the battle

</A> but you must clic on the cover for know if it’s from Paul Lehr
More easy for this serie (5 pages)
Van Vogt covers (use the search edit of your navigator
The Classic Google Image
Damned all should be more simple if all works of one artist exist on only one site
Pilou
Ps
Niece of Paul Lehr makes very nice colored paintings
Diana lehr Genetic is a nice and no just thing

Just for reference Diana Lehr is Pauls daughter…and unfortunately there are not very many books published even with a few pages of his work available…aside from the book Infinate Worlds, there was an article in Science Fiction Age magazine back in the fall of 1996 I believe that had Pauls work on the cover and an article written by Vincent DiFate…for original work you can check with Jane Frank at Worlds of Wonder…there were some black and white interiors and a small color rough for a cover…and i think she may have had a few paintings still available…What most Sci Fi Fans don’t know is that Paul was a very profound and prolific sculptor working in Large Wood, Metal and stone…Paul was a true artist in every sense of the word…If the paintings and illustrations leave any doubt…the sculptures solidify it…I think the best way to see a book of Pauls work may be to get the buzz out and see what kind of interest it generates…

Paul Lehr,
was commisioned by the proctor-silex corporation (date unknown)

name of Paul Lehr’s painting is (precision)
they’er were only 200 prints for each artist printed ----- i have one print from each artist, all are hand signed. I bought all 3 prints at a second hand store for only 20.00 bucks ---- NOW THATS LUCK FOR YA.

Thought i would throw this in under this topic, so folks would know that there are some paul lehr prints and paintings floating about out there.

I have just found and purchased an etching by Paul Lehr (6 7/8"x 4 7/8") titled Tree Trunk and Thistles. It was produced in 1973. It is a detailed, intense composition of minutely observed and rendered flower and plant forms. I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has information about Lehr’s prints

I’m not familiar with his print. In fact, I didn’t know he did any. I do own a couple of sketches that he did for book covers in the seventies or eighties, and they’re a perpetual source of inspiration for me, especially color-wise. If it doesn’t violate copyright, I’d be happy to post a couple of small jpegs here…How would I find out about the copyright thing?

hey Nick, I think the best and most polite thing would be to e-mail his daughter Diana (mentioned above): [email protected]

Maybe she would also be interested in seeing the scans

Yeah, the colors …
