Pandora's Keeper - WIP

Loving the paint update!! Keep it up! :+1:

I have been a little quiet but have finally got around to finished the model, this is a render showing the whole figure (and needs some touching up). I am currently doing a more detailed render and will post that once its done.

I rendered this with BPR layers and put together is Photoshop.

Been following progress on Twitter.

Lookin’ good!

Starting to get what I want now and learning along the way

Wow bud, please tell me you didn’t place all those skulls by hand? Looking very good tho, get the lighting and mood right and it’ll be a very nice piece. Biggest suggestion right now is to get some bounce light happening and a nice rim… it’ll really pop the character.

lol no I didn’t mate. I put 4 or 5 together and then expanded it  I am working on the lighting at the moment as I agree it needs some punch to it

I have added a specular and started to experiment with the rim lighting, the specular was fairly easy to render out but the rim was not playing ball in BPR so I am using best render to get the effect I want.

It still needs tweaking before I move onto the depth pass being added and some little post effects.

Thanks for looking.

Tweaked the lighting a little more, learning so much from this piece…

The latest one feels a bit too bright, I really love all the details you put into your sculpt, use your lighting to really bring those details out! The highlights seem too blown out for such a scary dude. Id say study some images that you think have creepy lighting and use those for reference.

Thanks for the feedback artquest, I agree with you the lighting is still too strong and you are not alone with your crit. I will have a play around later today and make it more dark and moody

Just found the thread, I have to say I love the way your character has developed through out keep up the good work

Experimenting around with making the image a little more darker, gradually finding what I am looking for.

I’ve enjoyed your progress with this and am looking forward to see where you end.

Have you considered lighting this from beneath?

Cheers mate, I had but kind of went off the idea. I may just render out a shadow pass to see how it looks.

looking cool - rekon some rim lighting would make it pop ;):+1:

Cheers FoOD I think you are right a little extra rim would really bring him out

“It crippled our consciousness so completely that I wonder we had the residual sense to dim our torches as planned, and to strike the right tunnel toward the dead city. Instinct alone must have carried us through - perhaps better than reason could have done; though if that was what saved us, we paid a high price. Of reason we had little enough left.” H.P. Lovecraft

Pandora’s Keeper

Between our world and the next he walks the city of the dead in a hope of tempting lost souls into opening the box that he is cursed for eternity to carry.

This character was from a dream I had just over a month ago, when I woke I quickly sketched out a thumbnail and from there developed all of the model in Zbrush apart from the skull and final comp in Photoshop.

The main body was started with a mannequin and the legs from zspheres, the keys were done with shadow box using alphas. The final render was done with BPR with sss, shadow and AO (this took bloody ages!)

Anyway hope you like it and it had been an amazing learning experience for me, next back to life studies then a try at hard surface modelling

Tekeli-li! Tekeli-li!

Cool. it is really great to see this image evolve over the thread. Maybe add some nice bloom effects to the specular highlights?

hmphh - ah a Mountains of Madness reference  Heres hoping del Torro does it justice! (he probably will)

Andrew - got some feedback through twitter and it was similar to what you are suggesting so I did this to the image
