Hello, I have tried to do search on this matter without success. So the thing I want to find out is that how I can paint with many layers? For example I paint the very basic surface to a metal, and then I wan’t to paint let’s say for example impact point on that surface, and paint that ON TOP of the base texture, without the base texture popping to the impact point. Thank you very much.
What?
Well let’s try again. Let’s say for example I want to sculpt a wound to a guy’s head, a deep one made by sword cut. I sculpt it on to the model. And then I would want to put bandage partially to cover that wound, ergo to keep it shut. But when I try to paint the bandage, the sword cut comes ON TOP of the bandage. I am basically searching the same layer functionality as with Photoshop. To add underlying details to a sculpt and then something on top of these details.
you need to mask the underlying area. I’m still not sure what you’re trying to achieve.
Maybe posting an image of what you’re getting, and what you’re trying to achieve would help.
Yeah that would be a good idea. So:

In the pic you can see, that I have textured the plate. And when I sculpted the bolt on to that plate, it has the same texture. But if we think that the bolt is originally a different object than the plate, and the bolt is used for attaching the plate to something. In that case, it shouldn’t have the same pattern of texture as the plate has, because it has been added later, and it should be ON TOP of the plate.

And this is another instance. You can see the carved line, and the bevelled part. Let’s say that the carved line belongs to the surface of the helmet, and this bevelled part have been added later on, as different piece of metal, for example to reinforce the structure of the helmet. In that case, the carved line should be UNDERNEATH the bevelled part, and not cut across it like in the picture.
add the bolts and then add the noise detail later while masking off the parts you dont want affected. would be my suggestion.
Ok. But just to clarify, that wasn’t noise, it was brush with alpha texture.
Yep, what rob_beddall said.
Noise, or brush, doesn’t matter.
Hmh, strange that there isn’t any better way to do this. Sculpting textures on different layers gave me an idea that details on one layer hides details underneath it from the different layer, and no painting through.
