Painting Textures in Z to Maya

Hey All,
Just trying to figure some things out.

I built my model in Maya and UVmapped in Maya. Brought into Z to paint and add more detail. I guess I am not sure the steps on getting the painting to work properly.
I select my material and fill the object then start painting details. I then did a texture map from poly paint but after that i can only seem to paint when i drop with projection master. even then sometimes when i pick it back up i lose the painting i just did.

I guess my question is what steps should i be taking or is there a place that explains a bit clearer on making a color texture in Z for use in maya?

Thanks,
Doug

You can’t paint when the texture is applied, you have to switch back to polypaint. Do this by choosing No Texture in the Texture pallet.

so do i need to redo the texture map or just clone it and export it after i paint.

Thanks for the help.

Doug

i turned the texture map button off and it did allow me to paint once again.

I guess where i am stuck is what step do i take next. say i finish painting and want to export the color map back to maya, what would i need to do? i cant seem to figure it out on this part of my model.

I was able to do it with no problem earlier on a simple piece of geometry but now i cant seem to get it to work, lol.

ok, i may have found a fix.
my original model was partially modeled in nurbs before converting over to polys and attaching the head. the head was then mapped separately and it seemed to hold the colors when polypainting. the body is where the problems were and it was already UVmapped from when it was made in nurbs. I just tried doing an automap on all of it and it appears to now be holding the polypainting in Z.

anyone know if nurbs mapping is normally a problem?

Thanks,
Doug

ZBrush was made to work with Polys. I’m having trouble too with other issues regardig NURBS etc.
