Painting Bump Maps

hi all Zbrushers, i’m new to the software and I’m loving it ! anyway here’s the first real problem I’m having:

I’m working on a model of superhero type body, I want a bump map for details such as veins etc. so this is what I’ve done to paint it (following a tutorial):

-set the system palette color to 128 128 128
-on the texture menu made a new texture 2048x2048
-set material to bump viewer
-dropped the model into the projection master
-paint the bump map
-pick it up

now the first times I did this it was fine, but when I do it now and go back from the projection master, the bump map is all distorted or does not show up at all ! I’m guessing Ive touched something I shouldn’t have…anyway I’ve tried creating new bump maps from scratch and even loading old ones (the ones that work with older instances of the model) so I’m guessing it’s probably some settin within the tool menu, maybe something to do with UVs ?? any help much appreciated :+1:

oh by the way, is there any official manual for the software ? i’m using it in uni (we just got 10 licenses for R3)

you can find the documentation on pixologic’s site. I’m not sure which versions are up there though.

Do you find the problem only when using projection master? do you have to use projection master or can you do it with polypaint?

hi Goast ! the only thing I found is an update pdf for R3 which just includes the new stuff (i think) and can’t seem to find the general one…
anyway I managed to solve the problem generating a new UV map with the GUV button, I don’t know if I can use polypaint to paint bump maps and i don’t even know what polypaint is…I’ll look it up though ! I’m doing the video tutorials but an official manual would be great
thanks for the help
