overwhelmed.

I am posting this for some help.
I am overwhelmed by zbrush it self and all the information that is out there.
I don’t know if its artist block or something like that. All I know is every time I try to learn it from a tutorial
I get mentally stuck lately. I know its just a fricken program and in the past I had no problem learning other programs like Photoshop and Maya.

However lately I have become more complacent about learning anything new. Maybe its because I am not working with it as a part of my job and I don’t have deadlines.

can anybody help with some advice?

thank you

I agree that ZBrush is a complex program that can be overwhelming. I think the best approach is to get to grips with the basics of the program first - just simple stuff about what different things are, saving work and so on. ZBrush is not like other 3D programs and this will help avoid some common mistakes.

When you’re familiar with the basics, just pick one aspect that interests you. Don’t try to learn everything at once, just have fun. This can be as simple as loading up the default sphere project, sculpting with the standard brush, and just seeing what happens.

Aww, you didn’t give him the link to Newbie Lesson Number One  (please update that thread so I can reference it w/o grief).
Agreed, experimenting will get you far. Know thy Interface. Be sure to have fun.

Doug,

That thread won’t be updated. It is from 2002, when ZBC was used for online documentation. We now have the online docs which has the most up-to-date information, so it’s far better to give links to that. If there’s something you think is poorly explained, or not explained at all, do let me know (in a PM) and I will do my best to sort it out.

Thanks,

I didn’t think that it would be. I saw some humor in it was all

WareWolf, how far have you gotten so far? Like in general, you know? Can you sculpt or are you stuck in 2.5D or what seems like 2D?

Knowing where you have gotten to would be useful for giving you advice on where to go next, or even where to start.

Cheers!

I played for what seemed forever in 2D :frowning: . Missed out on a bunch of potentially cool models that way…Rectifying that now, hard drive space declining

I have been working overtime since May and havent been able to get online all the time.

here was my last project I worked on before got overwhelmed.

That doesn’t look overwhelmed, that looks like you are doing great!
So that brings the next question I guess:
What do you want to do next?

ZBrush is both complicated and easy at the same time, once you know how to do something it becomes second nature (in most cases).
Some things take longer to learn than others but from the looks of it you are well on your way.

The main thing I suppose is to not try to do everything at once. Oh, and asking questions, this is the best place in the world to learn about ZBrush, the manuals, wiki and tutorials are great but this is the best spot for when you are stuck.

Your bird is excellent by the way.

thats the hard part I have so much goinig on in my head that I have a hard time focusing on one thing
for example working on my second novel while writing 3 short stories, and working some art work in the process and also coming up with a half dozen other projects.
the bird is actual a gargoyle. but still thanks
