Nice…hmmm… amputation Monstermaker, delicious.
Jooooohhhhhhnnnnnnn!
We knew ye well.
Very nice. But this illustrates the lack of education in today’s cg artists. Few will probably know the subject matter. It will probably take a few years before the prominent art schools have parallel lines of sculpture, oil painting, and cg modeling. Who will be the rembrandt/picasso of the cg world?
Amazing work.
One of the greatest bible thrillers!! I love your rendition.
I too would like to know if the hair is PS… hell of a job if it is
Knocked my block off too!!!
Dear Fellow Z-Brushers:
Seeing this image reminds me of the great historical significance that religious-based art has had in the defining of cultures and history in general. Although this piece is a reminder of a sad and rather macbre subject, (one in which the person who raises moral issues in a public context is unfairly persecuted) the use of 3D technologies has again reminded the viewers that images have power and can inspire or shock us.
While I can appreciate many alien heads and other macbre images for their realism or their technical merits, I think that raising the viewers head to the divine aspects of our exitence is certainly a worthwhile endeavor.
Be well.
Steevo
Wow thanks everyone. I didn’t expect this good of a response. Ah the hair, everyone asks about the hair. Since I don’t have a software that does CG hair, and since I haven’t been that impressed with the CG hair that I have seen ,and since this is just a still image, I painted the hair in PS. First I modeled some basic geometry ,In Modo, to represent the hair and beard . I applied a wood procedural texture as a displacement to give it some high ands lows. After rendering I painted over that geometry in PS. I did this in about a day . I posted the progress on the Luxollogy wip gallery.http://forums.luxology.com/discussion/topic.aspx?id=10694
. You might check it out to see the hair wips. I also have some other interesting stuff posted there you can do a search for monstermaker if you are interested. I haven’t been doing much ZBrush lately because I have been teaching myself some other software ,and I was having weird ZProblems that are now Fixed ,Thanks Matthew. I forgot just how much I love ZBrush .Can’t wait to play with 2.5.
Elfufu, I remember your comment from a couple of years ago,and it is still true I have a lot to learn about topology, but I did think it was funny. Those were the good old days when no one knew who the old monstermaker was.
Again thanks everyone
Good job ! i like his mouth
…of feminism action
Awesome work! I thought this was Jesus at first until I clicked on the thumbnail. Quite a shock! Unless its a headless Jesus.
It’s John The Baptist and a side of fries, minus the fries…
I learn so much from your sculpting, Rick. The draping of the flesh over the bones is just SOOO well done. Really feels like a dead guy’s head.
Inspiring work…
Damn, now I’m hungry…
Dickie

NICE WORK
Your work continues to inspire.
Good to see you still posting
Very nice Mr. Baker! You portray death very well. And excellent work on the hair.
Nice and fun little project, I recognized the Monstermaker’s touch a mile away.
Any more to come ?
Bye !

Great expression. Love it
-Kris
This is a fine example yet again of art making you amazed as well as a statement!
Steevo, you are right about this piece! There is a power in artwork that draws our emotions and deepest thoughts out into the open.
Mr BAker, The subject matter of this work speaks volumes to me. Just thinking about John’s end in delivering the good news challenges me to live boldly.
Again, Great work!
-Andy
one day when i grow up i want to be just as talented as MM…
freekin cool JtB dude
awesome…10 stars
Excellent work, Rick. I’ve never seen a disembodied head look so… dead. Feels like a recently living, breathing person whose life has just drained out along with his blood in that bowl. Love the lighting and colors. And that hair looks amazingly natural.
HOLY CRAP RICK! If Your reputation did not already precede you I would be blown away by your new work! But,you have already awed and inspired me since i was a kid. Nothing new there:) The fact that an ‘old pro’ like yourself has as adapted to this new medium so fluidly is what truly inspires this humble monkey. Especially your jump into fluids and hair! Truely a difficult aspect of 3d. If you were the wicked witch of the east i would be honored to some day fly in your ranks. Bravo Mr. Baker on the subject matter. No one has done Johns head justice since Luini. He would be proud! Thanks for the years of inspiration.
HA!!! That is ****in bad-ass!!!
