Great to hear that !
He will need to do that, and focus a bit into advertisement with great vids. But i know this is being discussed too.
Some of vids(not all…just incase I get quoted) that supposedly promotes 3dcoat, in my honest opinion doesn’t do it justice…to a further extent it does more harm than good, I am certain that many can agree on this point.
So um yeah… i dont really know what im supposed to answer right now.
This thread is called other commercial applications discussion thread and right
now its turning into an 3dcoat radical christ gets offensive thread.
I hope your beloved Andrew registers just to send u a pm telling you that your
doing more harm to a program that is already critically discussed not only about
its functions but about the attitude that comes with it and its users.
cheers
edit: You can show this post to your daughters maybe theyll hate it even more then the monsters on this site… seriously someone swing a banhammer
that’s exactly my point… I read what I needed to and it wasn’t a false fact, because I saw the debate between the 2 - anyway that’s about all I’ll say on that topic - glad he removed it though
Sheesh. The way I see it, there’s only one person dishing out insults here. How very moral of you…
one thing I noticed was that over in the 3dc forum, users there(again…some, not all) are less forgiving when someone praises zbrush…and please don’t give me the ‘it’s a 3dcoat forum of course you can’t praise another package…blah blah’
BUT IN YOUR DIRECTION
@ JC - Just for your info - I am not a Christian
I DO HOWEVER RESPECT OTHER PEOPLES RELIGIOUS POSITIONS UNLIKE SOME OF YOU
basta!
END OF TRANSMISSION
Seriously…
I do respect religious opinions even though i have my own views and tend to not
get involved into any of it.
No one gives a … what type of religion you are as it has nothing lost here.
This is a place discussing SCIENCE, the computer one that is.
We should all know science and religion dont mix well… you know
all this 4000 year old earth vs the grand canyon and stuff.
science is a religion too. The only difference is that it can be intersubjectively “verified”. Anyway Andrew is a nice bloke and you can discuss with him. He just tries to live a live with proper values, which is rather rare nowadays. And for this he has my full support in world full of grief and egoism. I have personally not seen him to try to convert people or disrespecting others opinions.
I can however understand the feelings people have about it, because i had the same at beginning. However it changed to a much more positive picture of Andrew in the meantime. Be open
Back on track.
Nice app to see how much time you spend sculpting and how much
arguing without sense.
Im not sure if i like it or if i feel observed by it but its definitly fun to
see where your computer time goes.
Not really an commercial application but fun ^^
Speaking of time, I really like Ora Time & Expense. It’s like a personal time clock for freelance work it also keeps track of your clients and projects as well as creating invoices in multiple formats and more. It’s not exactly commercial since it’s freeware, but i just thought it might help some of you out.
BTW it runs on Adobe Air so if you don’t have that installed you’ll have to download that first.
Thats true, what is also true is that zbrush itself is not very stable either. I still get crashes almost every week, so that “huge amount of money” is not paying off very well. On the other hand, I run 3dcoat on linux and I have not experienced a single crash while sculpting in almost two weeks. Sure there are some bugs, still I think it doesnt hurt the program that much.
3D-Coat’s voxel tools are partly based on (or at least partly inspired by) Clay Tools. The biggest difference is that 3DC can use a normal tablet or even mouse, while Clay Tools requires an expensive haptic hardware device.
Ya, “partly based” and “partly inspired” sounds so much better than plagiarizing.
What? Voxel technology has been around longer than Clay Tools. The original reason Andrew started working on it for 3DC was that he worked with voxels to make terrains for the game company he previously worked for. That’s pretty harsh to call something plagiarism. Let me guess, Weta Digital are also plagiarists because Mudbox uses similar technology to ZBrush?
There is a difference between 'inspired by" to plagiarizing. In my opinion, 3dcoat has crossed this line and I do not feel comfortable supporting such behaviour, be it by a person or a company. Competition is good for our industry but unfair competition is not.
There really is no point in debuting this, it is ultimately your choice to support the level of “inspiration” that you feel comfortable with.
If that`s your opinion, everything we use now a days are plagiarized stuff.
ZBrush revolutionized the 3D Sculpting, so other guys plagiarized that.
Every 3D application utilized 3D algorithm, that`s pretty much plagiarizing the guy who invented it.
Windows Mac OS pretty much plagiarized off each others
Although Alfred Vail developed the PRACTICAL Morse Code that are used today, Prof. Morse took all of the credit
so on and so forth
I think there’s no matter of plagiarism. Zbrush and 3D Coat and Mudox themselves brought the concept of sculpting shapes to the masses, and this is a technology evolution taken from apps like Clay tools and others.
3D Coat, as well is a natural evolution of what Zbrush and Mudbox offer, conceived around the Voxel technology but not only.
It deals with things many people tend to ask to Zbrush tools in many ways.
Think about retopology tools, or paint layers with fusion methods a la Photoshop.
At the end of the game, for a certain kind of workflow, 3D users need an app in wich they can build up shapes regardless from limitations coming from polygons, detail them build meshes for animation and rendering, make UVs, paint maps like color, specular and other maps needed to make a character good in rendering.
Now, maybe 3D coat will need a huge effort of making it very smooth and provide a great performance before getting on par with an app like Zbrush, but Zbrush itself has limitations, too some of them work -arounded with things like Zapp link some other solved now, and who knows what future will bring.
I think, however that 3D Coat deserves its attention, because programmer seems to focus alot on what’s needed by 3D artists to enhance their workflow.
Yeah I just tried 3d Coat for the first time today. It’s pretty cool, I’ve been messing with it all day, and I’m certainly going to buy it.
I like the fact that you can create whatever with voxels without thinking about topology. It will be good for freely creating concepts in a similar fashion to ZSpheres 2. From the looks of it, both have their clear advantages, and will come in handy in different situations. It seems like a useful compliment to ZBrush and 3d in general.
The sphere tool is sweet. I’m on a project involving a splash, and would rather freehand the water than use polys or fluid simulation. It’s too cool, you can literally just scribble up drops in mid air and sculpt them freely!
Overall, for digital sculpting and painting, ZBrush remains on another level to me. It’s artistic feel and ability to handle hi res meshes as smooth as a hot knife through butter is incomparable to my experience with hi res voxels. So I don’t get why 3d Coat has been considered a real replacement by some, but it will definitely come in handy, and is really fun to use!
I look forward to finding ways for it to compliment my workflow with ZBrush and modo.
